To all whom a may concern Be it known that I, BENJAMIN URICH, a citizen of the United States, andaresident of the city of Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 11'). Key-Carrying Chains; and I do declare the following to be a clear, exact, andcomplete description thereof, such as will enable persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing for an exposition of some of the constructional forms in which my invention has been embodied.
The invention relates to key carriers of the flexible chain type.
The flexible nature of carriers of this kind' is conducive to the avoidance of bunching of the keys in the pocket, and therefore the chain carrier meets with greater favor, compared with the older form of carrier, that is. the key ring.
My invention involves an improvement whereby a single key carrying chain may be arranged in a plurality of divisions, so that the keys may be separated and grouped in accordance with the desire of the owner.
Such separation of the keys into groupsfacilitates greatly the finding of the desired key, when a large number are strung on the chain, inasmuch as it is necessary only to select from the keys of one group instead of from the whole number of keys.
The novel features of my invention will be pointed out in the claims appended to this specification.

Figures 1, 3, 5 and 7 are like views showing several forms in which my invention has been embodied.
Figs. 2, 4, 6 and 8, pertaining respectively to the above, show details of construction of the special forms of the connecting'link or shell for the ends of the flexible chain carrier, Fig, 4 being a cross sectional view of the link.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1, shows a length of chain forming a flexible key carrier. As illustrated, this chain is formed from a succession of connected balls 10. The
i end balls of the chain are adapted for removable engagement with sockets formed in the ends of a capsule shaped shell 11, as usual.
In efl'ecting my improvement, I pierce the shell 11 transversely,
- chain into as at 12, Figs. 1 and 2. and pass one end of the chain through the perforation, and then engage the end ball of the chain with the shell as usual. It will be obvious that a division of the key holding capacity of the chain is thus effected, permittlng the convenient separation of the keys into groups as desired.
In Figs. 3 and 4:, the construction is modifi'ed by extending, an ear 13 from the side of the shell, and perforating the said ear as at 121. The operation and use are as before described.
In Figs. 5 and 6, the shell is provided with two transverse perforations 122. through both of which the end of the chain will be led.
In Figs. 7 and 8, the division of the chain into separate key carrying sections. is effected by encircling the shell 11 and the chain 10 midway of its length by a band or ring 14, as will be understood from the drawings.
The end balls of the chain are easily removable from their sockets to permit changes being made in the keys to be carried.
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. In a key carrying chain, a shell socketed at its ends, a chain the ends of which are adapted to engage the sockets andmeans on the shell for chain into a plurality of key tions.
2. In a key carrying chain. a shell provided with means at its ends for removably holding the ends of a chain. a chain extendmg from one end of the shell to the other. and means on the shell for dividing the a plurality ofkey holding secdividing the holding sec ruary, 1922.
