specification of Letters Eatent.
Patenteolduly i8,
Application filed August 24-, 1913. Serial No. 251,329.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Isaac C. Porrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Field Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in collapsible field stoves. The object is to provide a portable knockdown stove adapted. for general use but more particularly for ield and army use, and it consists in a top upon which the cooking is done and within which the fuel is placed and ignited, removable legs, and an oven or shelf, all of which can be taken apart and assembled in a comparatively small space, so that the stove can be conveniently moved from place to place or set up at any point, whether out or indoors, and used an ordinary stove, and when outdoors in all kinds of weather without the slightest danger of smoke or explosion or the flame blowing out even in a high wind.
This invention consists in. a stove which includes a top, bottom, sides and door, with in which the fuel is adapted to beplaced, the sides having perforations for the supply of oxygen and the escape of the products of combustion, and legs detachably secured to the stove, as well as an oven or shelf, and both detach-ably supported beneath the stove.
in the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a view in perspective showing the oven atttached;
Figure 2 is a horizontal section through the stove;
Figure 3 1S a transverse vertical 360M011 through the construction shown in Figure 1;
Figure 4: is a sectional view similar to Figure 3 showing a shelf in lieu of an oven; and
Figure 5 is a view in perspective of the removable shelf.
The stove portion includes the top 1, upon which the cooking done, the bottom 2, the perforated ends and sides 3 and i respectively, and the perforated door 5, which is preferably connected to the downwardlyturned flange 6 on one edge of the bottom by means of hinges 7. The door ordinarily may be left open, but when closed it is held by the buttons I means. I
Within the stove and on the bottom, holders 8 somewhat in the form of horse shoes are placed to receive the cans of fuel. The fuel employed is preferably solidified alcohol, which is adapted to be burned directly from the cans, they being opened,
or some similar fastening and upon the application of a match thereto adjust them, to any irregularities in the ground or floor in setting up the stove.
An oven 123 is removably mounted beneath the stove, it being detachably fastened by any suitable means such as buttons 18 similar to those previously described (7). Other approved means of fastening, of course, might be employed.
in lieu of the oven shelf 1d might be used. This is provided with slots 15 which receive and straddle the legs and rest upon pins 16 extending through the legs.
i-landles 17 may be provided for the legs for convenience to facilitate screwing them in and out. 7
Thus 1 have provided a stove of few and simple parts which may be easily and quickly dismembered and stored in small compass or re-assembled, whereupon it is effective in either field or domestic use; and it is evident that more or less slight changes might be made, such for instance as the omission of the bottom plate and possibly the sides and ends, although in the most approved form of the invention they are preferred as they house the fuel and protect the flame and prevent its being extinguished in high winds; and hence I do not wish to limit myself to that construction illustrated and described.
I claim:
1. A collapsible field stove including top, bottom, perforated sides, ends and door, the top and bottom relatively close to each other, whereby a relatively low and flat stove portion is formed which is adapted to receive therein cans of solidified fuel where by the flame therefrom is at the proper distance from the top, and legs extending loosely through the bottom and removably secured to the lower side of the top, and constituting the sole means of support for the stove. V
2. A collapsible field stove including a stove portion which is composed of a top, bottom, perforated ends, sides and door, and within which the heating medium is adapted to be enclosed, and by which the flame thereof is protected from the wind and drafts, the top portion having depending threaded sockets, and the bottom portion provided with holes opposite each socket, and removable legs insertable tln'ough said holes and having threaded ends which screw into the sockets, and constituting the sole means of support for the stove.
A collapsible field stove including a stove portion which is composed of a top, bottom, perforated ends, and sides, and within which the heating medium is adapted to be enclosed, and by which the flame thereof is protected from the 'wind and drafts, the top portion having depending sockets, and the bottom portion provided with holes opposite each socket, removable legs insertable through said holes into the sockets, and means detachably supported on the legs below the stove portion through which the legs pass to serve as an oven or a shelf.
4:. A collapsible field stove including a stove portion which is composed of a top,
bottom, perforated ends, sides and door, and within which the heating medium is adapted to be enclosed, and by which the flame there of is protected from the wind and drafts, the top portion having depending threaded sockets, and the bottom portion provided with holes opposite each socket, removable legs inserted through said holes and having threaded ends which screw into the sockets, and means detachably supported on the legs below the stove portion through which the legs pass to serve as an oven or a shelf. A collapsible field stove including a stove portion which is composed of a top, bottom, perforated ends, and sides, and within which the heating medium is adapted to be enclosed, and by which the flame thereof is protected from the wind and drafts, and holders on the bottom of the stove adapted to removably receive the fuel cans at just the right position and distance from the top.
, 6. A. collapsible lield stove including an imperforate top and bottom, perforated sides, ends and door, the door extending approximately the full lngth of one side, depending sockets from the lower surface of the top and the bottom having holes immediately beneath these sockets and legs insertable tlu'ough the holes in the bottom and adjustably connected with the depending sockets.
In testimony whereof I ailix my si nature.
