UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICo WILLIM WOICESKI, OF BLOOMINGTON, ILLINQIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN PUNCHING-MACHINES.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,3] 7, dated August 26, 1873; application led July 3, 1873.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIM WorcEsKI, of Bloomington, in the county of McLean and in the State of Illinois, `have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machine for Punching Stove-Pipes, Boiler-Iron, Ste.; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making apart of this specification.
Tile nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a machine for punching stove-pipes, boiler-iron, &c., as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a front view, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, of my machine.
A represents a stand or table of any suit-` able dimensions, upon Which are secured two cast-metal frames, B and C. In the upper end a horizontal shaft, a, with crank b at one end, from which a pitman, D, E, under the table, for operating the machine.
The machine may be operated by steam or water power by connecting such power by a belt with a pulley, d, on the shaft a. Upon this shaft is also a large cog-wheel, G, which gears with a pinion, e, on a shaft, a', below and parallel with the shaft a, and this shaft a carries the fly-wheel H.
On the shaft a within the frame B is secured a pinion, f, which gears with a large cog- .fwheel, I, made fast on a horizontal shaft, a2,
in the upper end of the frame (l. On one end of this shaft is a crank-pin, z, upon which is placed a short pitman, J. The lower end of this pitman is forked, and in the same is pivoted a plunger or slide, K, having a punch formed on or attached to its lower end. The plunger or slide K moves in a suitable box or guide, L, which is either formed on or `attached to the frame.
By working the treadle, or by applying any other suitable power, the plunger is operated up and down, causing the punch to make holes through the material placed in position for that purpose.
VFor heavy work an anvil, M, is placed on the stand A, directly under the punch; while for light work an L-shaped post, N, is used, said post being secured on the stand and capable'of being swung in and out to or from under the punch. The anvil M is to be re-v moved when the post N is to be used. The stove-pipe is passed over the horizontal arm of the Lshaped post N, which is then swung around under. the punch, when the punch descends and makes the hole.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a punching mechanism operated by gearing, substantially as described, the revolving L-shaped post N, over which the pipe is placed and swung in under the punch, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of May, 1873.
' WILLIM WOIUESKI.
