PATENT OFFICE STEPHEN USTICK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPRovEMl-:NT |N cARAx| .E Boxes.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,303, dated August 26, 1873; application filed June 12, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN UsTIoK, of the city of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Lubricators for Oar-Axle Journals, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in the combination of oil-boxes with the journal-bearings and the upper corn ers of the j ourn al-box, as hereinafter fully described. The object of the invention is the facilitating the lubrication by having the supply of oil in close proximity to the journal, and also to keepA the oil 'free from dust or dirt.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the bearing A. Fig.2 is an end view of the same. Fig. A3 is an isometrical view of one of the oil-boxes B. Fig. 4 is an end view ofthe bearing A and the oil-boxes B in connection therewith. Figs. 5 and 6 are an edge and end view of the bearing A, having recesses g g for holding distributingpads C. Figs.,7 and 8 are aside and end view of the bent plate E.
Like letters in all the figures indicate the same parts.
A is a journal-bearing, seen in detail in Figs. 1 and 2. The upper corners are removed for the purpose of dispensing with the superfluous metal, and also to'form spaces c a for the reception of oil-boxes B, shown in connection with the bearing in Fig. 4, and detached therefrom in Fig. 3. The rear end of the bearing A is left full a short distance, at b b, to fill up The ilanges c c may be omitted in the con- I `struction ofthe boxes B, if desired, and similar flanges made to the bearing A, as seen in Figs. 5 and 6; or the recesses g g may be formed by bent plates E, shown in detail in Figs. 7 and 8, the plate being hung on the projections c o of the bearing A.
If desired, the boxes may be connected at their front ends with a box in front of thet journal and bearing, the front box being connected with them by means of short tubes or otherwise, or made continuous with them.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the oil-boxes B B with the bearing A, substantially in the manner and for the purpose Vabove set forth.
STEPHEN USTIGK.
