Application led January 9, 1920. Serial No. 350,379.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, Louis W. KRUsn, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of San Jose, in the county or' Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Couplings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates particularly to a coupling to be used in connection with the wiring system of automobiles.
In the latest model of the Ford automobile the Wires leading to the commutator distributor and one headlight are carried from their respective terminals to the said distributor and the said headlight through a conduit, the front end of the conduit terminating at a pointv near the front end of the engine and the several wires being eX- posed from that point to their several connections. Those wires running from the conduit to the distributor, four in num'- ber, are exposed to oil drippings from working parts and to injury by the engine fan or the fan belt. Wlhen the insulation upon any one of these wires is injured materially'the particular wire exposed cannot be removed alone but the whole conduit with all or the wires passing through it from one terminal to another must be removed and discarded.
It is the object of my invention to provide a simple and easily installed coupling for the above mentioned wires at a point adjacent the front end of the conduit so that but a short section ot any injured wire need be removed and replaced7 thereby saving the expense attached to installing an entirely new conduit and wires.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, at 12-3-4l 5-6 are shown a plurality of wires extending from their respective terminals la 1-3aa- @Lf-6 on an automobile body to their respective terminals 1b-2b-8b-4b b-t" as shown, the terminals lb 2b-3b`4b being mounted on the distributor and the terminals {3b-6b portion of my im* an annular ring 10 yformed on the central i portion thereof to form shoulders 1l. Over each end of body portion 9 and engaging one shoulder ll is a cap member l2 held in position in any suitable manner as by threading thereon as at 13. Each cap member 12 is provided with an orifice 14; of suiicient size to permit the passage ot the said six wires therethrough. In like manner the severed ends of the remaining' parts of said wires are secured in position in their respective tubes in the coupling.
The wires 5` and 6 to headlight 7 are seldom it ever injured and therefore may not need repairing'. But if any one of the wires extending to the distributor should be injured sufficiently to require removal, the whole system of wires need not be replaced, but the injured section may be removed trom its connection to the starter and to the coupling and replaced with a new section at an insignificant expense of either time or money.
It is understood of course that changes in form, proportions and construction may be made within the scope of the appended claim. v
