The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the combination, construction, and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this applioation. like numerals of reference inclicate similar parts in the several views and wherein:
Figure 1 is a sectional view through a receptacle showing the signalling device arranged therein and the position of the parts when the receptacle is empty.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the position of the parts just prior to sounding of the signal.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a detail view of the signalling device removed from the receptacle.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 10 in dicates a receptacle which may be vof any suitable construction size and configuration without departing from the spirit of the invention, but which receptacle is adapted to receive a liquid.
The signalling device forming the subject matter of my invention comprises a standard 11 which is suitably secured to the bottom of the receptacle 10 and which may vary in length, the length of the standard depending upon the capacity of the size of the receptaole 10 with which it is used. Supported by the upper end of the standard 11 is a bell 12 which is adapted to be sounded when the contents of the receptacle reach a predetermined level. Journaled in the standard 11 is a shaft 13 which projects beyond the opposite sides of the standard, one end of this shaft supporting the hammer 14 for the bell, while Specification of Letters Patent.

carried by the opposite end of the shaft is a trip element 15, the latter being disposed at an angle with respect to the hammer for the purpose to be presently described. The hammer 1 1. is normally held in contact with the bell 12 through the instrumentality of a spring 16, one end of which is secured to the adjacent end of the hammer arm as at 17, the opposite end of the spring being secured to the standard 11. The hammer 14 and trip 15 being secured to the same shaft obviously move in unison.
Pivoted upon the standard 11 at an appropriate point beneath the shaft 13 is an arm 18 one end of which supports a float 19, the opposite end of which is offset as at 20. Carried by the offset extremity 20 is a projection 21 which cooperates with the trip 15 to sound the signal.
When the receptacle is empty the component parts of the signalling device occupy the positions illustrated in Figure 1. Just before the level of the liquid reaches a predetermined height, incident to the filling of the receptacle, the float 19 rises moving the arm 18 upon its pivot, lowering the extension 20, during which operation the projection 21 engages the trip 15, thereby turning the shaft 13 in a direction to move the hammer 14 away from the bell 12. This is the position of the parts just prior to sounding of the signal and is clearly illustrated in Figure 2. As the liquid reaches its predetermined level, the float is actuated to impart further movement to the extension 20, during which operation the projection 21 is separated from the trip 15 being moved off the end of the latter, at which time the spring 16 functions to move the hammer into engagement with the bell 12 sounding the latter and indicating that the receptacle has been filled. The invention is very simple in construction, and efficient and positive in operation.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
That I claim is:
1. The combination with a liquid containing receptacle, of a standard arranged 'Within the receptacle, a bell supported by the standard, a spring pressed hammer normally contacting said bell, and float actuated means for moving the hammer away fromthe said trip to move the hammer away from the bell against the tension of said yieldable means, and subsequently release the hammer for the purpose specified.
The combination with a liquid containing receptacle, of a standard arranged with in the receptacle, a bell supported by the standard, a shaft journaled on the standard,
a hammer carried by the shaft, a trip element carried by the shaft, and float actuated means co-operating with said trip to sound the bell when the liquid reaches a predetermined level Within the receptacle.
