This invention relates to a display attachment for counters and like fixtures, and more particularly comprises a casing, preferably of sheet metal, presenting at its upper side a series of openings through which articles of various character may be exhibited.

()ne of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple means which may be applied to store counters and like fixtures in general use and serve to show the purchasing public samples of goods, the main supplies of which are kept in larger containers elsewhere in the store.

As is shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the. drawing, the case or frame, 1, which is preferably constructed of thin sheet metal, has a series of openings, 2, of substantially rectangular outline and is provided at its upper edge with an inclined portion, 3, made integita lly therewith and folded upon itself for strengthening purposes. This inclined poran lip-turned flange, 4), sunilarly spaced from the front face of the'casing and extending continuously the full length thereof. The ends, 6, of the case are closed by metallic portions having an inwardly turned flange, T, to make the structure more rigid. These flanges are substantially continuous with the up-turned flange at the bottom of the casing. The end walls of the casing may be of greater width at their point of connection with the bottom flange than at their upper portions and the inclined upper edge of the casing may likewise be of lesser width than that of the lower edge of the casing. The lower corners, 8, of the frame are preferably rounded, as shown, in Fig. 1.

Supporting strips, 9, attached to the lower edge of the casing may he provided, as

clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. When the display attachment is applied to the under edge, 11, of a store counter, 12, the supporting strips are bent downwardly at their inner ends, 13, and nails or other fastening devices, 14, are applied to the store fixture through such downwardly turned portions. When the attachment is to be used in a show window or above a store fixture, the supporting strips are not bent at an angle at their lower ends and constitute the sole support for the display fixture, and may have a' series of fastening elements such as screws or nails, 15, fastened therethrough at suitable intervals as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3. 1 The individual containers, 21, used with the case or frame just described areillustrated in Figs. 4 and 5. They are preferably formed of a-single piece of sheet metal, the sides, 22, being turned upwardly to form a box-like receptacle of the desired depth. Three of the said sides are then formed so as to provide grooves, 23, of appropriate size to receive a sheet of glass, 24;, which may be used as the top or cover for the container. Theedge, 25, of the remaining up-turned side, instead of being formed into a groove, is turned backwardly so as to provide a reinforcing edge for the container at that point and permit the free insertion of the glass within the grooved portions formed on the upper edges of the adjacent sides.

From the foregoing description, the manner of using my display device will be obvious. The goods which it is desired to dis play are placed in the individual containers and the glass cover plate is slipped into position thereover. The containers are then inserted beneath the resilient tongues of the casing or frame and forced upwardly to the full extent of the space allowed, and then lowered into engagement with the flanges upon the lower rear side of the casing. This securely holds them in position and their ready removal is accomplished by reversing the operation just described.

This construction is one of great simplicity and is very economical to manufacture. It provides a means of utilizing most advantageously space which ordinarily is not used for the display of goods and the preferred position beneath the front edge of a counter is such as to invite the attention of a-customer who is making purchases.

Other modes of applying the principle of my invention may be employed instead of -the one explained,change being made as regards the construction herein disclosed, provided the means stated by any of the following claims or the equivalent of such stated means be employed;

I therefore particularly point out and distinctly claim as my invention 1. A display attachment for store fixtures comprising a casing provided with a series of display openings and having an inclined portion through which fastening means may be placed and a series of inclined supporting strips at the lower edge of said casing, an up-turned flange adjacent the base of said casing, a series of resilient tongues attached to said inclined portion of the casing, and extending downwardly in the rear of each of said openings, and a series of containers adaptedto be removably engaged behind said openings.

2. A display attachment for store fixtures comprising a casing provided with a series of display openings and having an inclined portion throughwhich fastening means may be placed and series of inclined supporting strips at the lower edge of said casing, an up-turned flange adjacent the base of said casing, and extending downwardly in the rear of each of said openings, a series of boxlike containers provided with transparent covers and adapted to be seated within said up-turned flange and engaged by said resilient tongues.

A supplementary attachment for store fixtures comprising a casing angularly supported from the under edge of the fixture and providedwith a single series of display openings longitudinally arranged; a series 7 and a fastening element for removably holding each of said containers in position, said fastening element comprising a flange portion on said casing and a resilient tongue in spaced relation to th'e front face of said casing.

A display attachment for storefixtures comprising a casing 'angularly supported from the under edge of a fixture and provided with a single series of display openings longitudinally arranged, a series of containers adapted to be seated behind said openings, fastening elements for removably holding said containers in position and. an integral supporting member in angular relation to the casing for securing the same to said store fixture:

7. A supplementary display fixture for a store counter formed of a body of light sheet material, means for positioning said body in angular relation to the front edge of said counter, and a plurality of display members supported on said fixture, adapted to be presented at an angular relation to the top surface of said counter for convenient observation from a position in front of said counter.

8. In an article of the class described the combination of a supplementary display fixture for a store counter formed of sheet material, fastening means angularly related to said fixture for connecting the same beneath the projecting edge of a store counter, a plurality of removable display elements supported on said attachment, and means coacting with said elements for forming a substantially smooth unbroken surface upon the upwardly inclined face of the assembled attachment.
