MAGNETIC HEALING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 4, 1922.
Application filed May 2, 1918. Serial No. 232,184.
T 0 all 10710111, 'it may concern.:
Be it known that l. SHiN'raao MAusnlMA, a subject of the Emperor of Japan. residing at No. 31 Tansu Machi` Ushigome Ku. in the city of Tokyo, Japan. have invented certain new and useful Improvements iu Magnetic Healing AXpparatus (for which l have filed application in Japan July 3, 1916. No. 26,384), of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an apparatus for promoting health and healing diseases by transmitting magnetism into the human body, and consists in a mixture of powders of magnetite, antimony sulphide and charcoal sealed in a metal casing, through which one or more copper rods are passed, the magnetism caused in the mixture being transmit-ted into the human body by means of a leading cord.
The object of this invention is to provide an apparatus for transmitting magnetism into the human body, which giving a slight stimulus to the nerve periphery and tissue cells, accelerates blood circulation and skin excretion and regulates the metabolism,
.thereby promoting health and keeping off diseases or assisting recovery therefrom. Another object is to provide an apparatus adapted for the above purpose, which is easy of use, gives no bad effects, and can be used for any length of time without replenishing any chemical or replacing any part thereof.
As is well known, electric current has long since been used for therapeutical purposes, but no one has ever thought of using magnetism for the similar purposes, employing an apparatus which can be used forever without replenishing any chemical, in which the action of magnetism can be regulated by merely cooling the body of the apparatus. and which can be used by a person even of delicate health or seriously ill.
It has been observed that when a magnet is brought into contact with a sensitive part of the body, such as temple, linger` or tongue, a certain stimulus or sensation is felt. but it soon disappears. It has also been observed that this stimulus or sensation continues so long as the temperature of the body and that of the magnet are kept different, and that the greater the difference of temperature between the t-wo,the stronger is the magnetic action. This clearly shows To a metal bottom piece l are fixed copper rods 2 (in the drawing the apparatus is shown with two such rods, but one or morethan two may be used as well) by screwing or soldering. The body of casing 3 which is a metal cylinder, is soldered to the bottom l and filled with a mixture 4 of 30 parts of powdered magnetite, l5 parts of powdered antimony sulphide and 45 parts of powdered charcoal (these proportions maybe varied according to the quality of the lngredients). The copper rods are for the purpose of concentrating magnetic lines of force. Then the casing is tightly closed with a metal top piece 5. This metal top piece has at its centre a rod 6 verticallv xed thereto, with a hole 7 near its base to receive a leading cord 10. A washer 8 which has a groove on its upper surface all round 1s placed upon rod 6 and one end of the leading cord 10 inserted in the hole 7, the part projecting beyond the hole being wound around the rod 6 and laid it in the groove of the washer 8. Another washer 8 which has a groove on its under surface corresponding to the groove of the other washer is then placed in position, and the whole is held tight by screwing down a nut 9. The leading cord continues single for a convenient length, say one metre, and then separates into two lines, to the end of each of which lines a terminal plate 11 is attached. The terminal plates have each a concave part 12 at the center and are provided with rubber bands 13 for the purpose of tying them to the body of the user.
To use this apparatus` the concave part of the terminal plates filled with absorbent cotton or the like, suitably moistened, and t-ied to suitable parts of the body, say one to the right, or left, leg and the other to the left, or right, arm, if the purpose is to place the whole body under magnetic inuence, or to near the affected parts, if it is intended to obtain cure of any disease. To obtain a greater magnetic force, the apparatus should be cooled by placing it in water, or when necessary, in iced water, contained is a vessel which must be either porcelain or glass, and the parts of the body where the terminal plates are applied should be kept warm by covering them with cloth moistened with hot water.
When there is a certain difference of temperature between the apparatus and the body of the user thereof, magnetic influence begins to appear, which becomes stronger and stronger as the difference of temperature between the two becomes greater and greater, that is, as the apparatus becomes cooler and cooler.
The stimulus which this apparatus gives to the human body is very natural and penetrating in action, very slow and rhythmic, flows into the innermost cells and gives very salutary effects. The more important of these effects are regularity of pulsation, varicosity of veins, prolonged respiration, and so on, and thus promote the normal physiological functions. A sphygmonometer shows a rise of 3 or 4 mm. after using this apparatus for from 5 to 10 minutes. Further application of it shows a rise of 2O or 30 mm., and sometimes the person using it perspires. Of course, the period after which such reactions take place, differs according to the constitution and age of the user, but generally speaking it is about two hours with the adult and about 30 minutes with the child. The record of asphygmograph also shows very sound conditlon of pulsation.
To recapitulate, the more important effects obtained by the usel of this apparatus are as follows`z Increase of blood pressure.
Regular pulse.
Prolonged respiration.
Increase of warm sensation.
Perspiratory action.
Diuretic action.
, Analgesic action.
Peristalic action.
Increase of appetite.
Vital compensation.
The apparatus of my invention, as has been explained, works forever without the expense or trouble of replenishing any chemical, and is useful to all persons, as 1t keeps them from sickness, or when they have become sick, it rassists recovery therefrom, by promotlng normal vital functions of various organs of the human body.
aving now fully described my invention, I claim 1. A therapeutic appliance comprising a metallic casing, a mixture of magnetite, antimony sulphide and charcoal contained within said casing, copper in rod form passing through said mixture, terminal plates for application to the body and electrical connections from said plates to the casing, sub.- stantially as described.
2. A therapeutic appliance comprising a metallic casing, a mixture of magnetite, antimony sulphide and charcoal, all in powdered form, contained within said casing, copper in rod form passing through said mixture, terminal plates for application to the body and electrical connections from said plates to the casing, substantially as described. In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this s ecification.
