WILSON A. GLDS, OIE MEDICAL LAKE, WASHINGTON.
ELECTRICAL-TREATMENT APPARATUS.
` Specification of Letters Patent.
, Patented Dec. 5, 1916..
Application'filed August 17J 1914. Serial No. 857,219.
State of Washington, h ve invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electrical- Treatment Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
in object orn my invention is to provide an apparatus in the form of a harness to be fitted to the body of a person and to be connected with one of the terminals of an electric circuit7 the opposite terminal of which is adapted to be received in the mouth of the person receiving the treatment and to thus cause a passage of the current through the body and to include the body as a part of the circuit.
d further object is to so construct the harness that the energized portions thereof pass across the nerve centers and the trunk nerves.
lWith other objects in view, which will be hereinafter referred to, my invention consists in the peculiar combination and novel arrangement of parte, such as will be more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing the parts fitted to the body of a person and with the electrical connecn tion formed thereto. F ig. 2 is a view in rear elevation of the body harness of the device. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the Contact plates connected with one oi' the terminals of the energizing circuit.
The body harness comprises a plurality of thin strap bands of virgin copper (copper which has not been smelted) which bands are arranged to pass over the nerve centers and the trunk nerves and are each connected at a common point and to a common source of electrical energy.
The band 1, which is of copper, is fitted up around the neck oi the wearer tov pass across the back of the neck and across the nerve centers at the base of the skull, this band 1 is brought down over the chest of the wearer and is connected at its end to the zinc plate 2 which plate is made of a considerable size and is adapted to lit against the abdomen of the person adjacent the stomach and to embrace beneath its area the important nerves which. control the functioning of the digestive organs. A belt 3 is connected at its end with the zinc plate 2 and this belt which is a thin copper band is adapted to pass up and over the small of the back and to thus complete the Contact entirely around that portion of the body within which the stomach and digestive organs are located. A copper band i is connected with the lower edge of the plate 2 and the greater portion of its length is passed between the legs of the wearer and then divided so that its ends 5 and (i may be brought up around the thighs of the wearer and again connected with the plate 2. A shield or pad 7 is provided to be fitted beneath the straps to prevent chaling of the body and if desired this pad may be made of a conductive material to perform the same function as tl e band il and to, as
it embraces and extends over a considerable portion of the lower part of the tcrso of the wearer, energizes the nerve centers in the lower portions of the body.
A contact plate 8 is secured to the band 1 preferably at the point where it crosses the nerve center at the base of the slrull and a conductor 9 is provided to connect this Contact plate with the positive terminal otl the battery 10 or with any other suitable source of mild electrical supply.
A conductor 11 is connected with the negative terminal of the battery and at the free end of the conductor the contact member 12 is connected, this contact member being of such form that it may he held in the mouth of the person receiving the treatment.
In using the apparatus, the harness will be fitted to the body as illustrated in F ig. 1, then with the parts connected with the battery, the Contact member 12 is held in the mouth or' the person against the tongue. The pathl of travel of the current through the apparatus is then from the battery 10 through the conductor 9 to the plate S and thence through the band 1 to the zinc plate 2 and to each 0f the straps connected therewith, then as the contact plate 12 is held in the mouth of the person and this contact is connected with the negative terminal of the battery by the conductor 11, the circuit will pass through the body of the person and back to the Contact plate 12 from whence it will pass through the ccnductor 1l and back to the battery, thus causing a completion of the circuit wherein the body is included to bridge the gap between the negative and positive electro-energized elements of the apparatus.
While the connection of the apparatus has hereinbefore been described as a direct contact of the parts vvith the body of the person, this apparatus can be used by adjusting the harness to the body ofthe person, placing the contact plate 12 in a glass or other receptacle containing a mineral water Which has chemical properties and mineral ingredients to cause electrical conductivity and then by taking the Water from the receptacle through a straw, a glass tube, or other non-conducting tube, the circuit connection will be completed through the liquid and the passage of the stream to the stomach Will cause a direct transmission of the electric current at all points Which may be contacted by the flow of liquid. No particular property essential to the mineral Water used in this connection Will be herein taken up but it willA be understood that any mineral Water may be used so long as the properties thereof are of such a nature as to render it capable of conducting an electric current.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided an electrical treatment apparatus which is simple in construction and in use, and which is so arranged that an electrical stimulating eect is transmitted through the body structure direct to the nerve centers andthe trunk nerves by which the members of the body are connected, and further it Will be seen that the direct passage of current through the bodily structure Copies of this patent may be obtained for rather than an external application or a vibratory movement accomplished by electrical energy, is affected to destroy disease germs and to build up weak and devitalized parts of the body structure.
While I have herein shown and described one specific form of my invention, it will be understood that slight changes might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts Without departing from the spiri and scope of my invention, and hence I do not Wish to be limited thereto except for such limitations as the claim may impart.
I claim An electric treatment device for application to the human body including a zinc plate and means for supporting such plate adjacent the abdomen of the patient, such means comprising a conducting band attached at each end to the top of said zinc plate and looped around the neck, a conducting band attached to the bottom of said plate and passed backwardly between the legs divided into two parts passing upwardly over the thighs in opposite directions and brought in toward each other and attached to the sides of said zinc plate to hold the latter in a fixed location against the abdomen.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
