Description

C. BEECKEN.
ROPE CLAMP.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 4, 1921.
Patentd July 4, 1922.
I Che/Zea fleas/8327 INVENTOR BY ATToRNyg UNH'EED! stares CHARLES BEEGKEN, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
ROPE CLAMP.
Application filed April 4,
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES BEEGKEN, a citizen of Germany (having declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States), residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to rope clamps, and has for an object to provide a clamp for securing together the ends of a clothes line, pulley or scaffold rope, or the like whereby the rope may be quickly secured or released with a minimum of effort, and for other purposes which will appear as the nature of the invention is more clearly understood.
In addition to the foregoing this inven tion comprehends improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings in which similar and corresponding parts are designated by the same characters of reference throughout the several views in which they appear:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a clothes line illustrating one manner of the use of my invention.
Figure 2 is a view in perspective of the rope clamp, and
Figure 3 is a view in top plan of the connection for a clothes line and rope clamp.
With reference to the drawings, 10 indicates a stationary jaw and 11 a movable jaw of my rope clamp, each of which consist of relatively wide end portions 12 and 13, the opposite ends tapering as at 14L and 15. A pair of ears 16 are formed with the jaw 10 and extend beyond one edge to embrace the sides of the jaw 13 as shown; a pin, rivet or the like 17 penetrating the said jaw and the ears to pivotally connect the parts for relative movement. The adj acent edges of the jaws, are grooved longitudinally as at 18 to receive strands of rope.
, The outer edge of the portion 14 is scal- Specification of Letters Patent.

loped or formed with a plurality of transverse grooves 19, the material between the grooves being rounded to semi-circular formation to define ridges 20. The outer edge of the portion 15 is likewise provided with a series of transverse grooves 21. A ring '22 preferably rectangular embraces both jaws and becomes seated in the grooves 19 and 21.
For use as a clothes line connector as shown in Figure 1, one end of a strand of rope 23 is doubled and inserted between the jaws of the device to leave a loop 2% beyond the large end, and the ring 22 moved along to tightly bind the jaws together upon the rope. The other end of the rope is provided with a connector consisting of a semi-circular member 25 having its ends connected by a pin 26 around which a sleeve 27 operates, said sleeve entering the loop 24. The rope is intended to operate over the pulleys 28 in the usual manner. Thus, during damp weather when the line shrinks and tightens, sufficient slack may be let out by loosening the jaws and subsequently tightening them. This device may be also used to good advantage, for clamping the ropes of a painters scaffold, or in fact any kind of block and tackle. Other uses and advantages will readily occur to those familiar with the art I to which this invention appertains.
WVhile I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
- Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. A rope clamp including relatively movable tapered jaws having grooves on their inner faces and slidable means to releasably secure the jaws together.
2. A rope clamp including relatively for relative movement, and slidable means to bind the jaws together.
In testimony whereof I afiiz: my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
CHARLES BEECKEN.
Witnesses ROBERT Brsnorr, WM. ZEAMAN.
