- This invention relates to improvements in gas burners and has for a primary object to provide a gas burner, particularly of the type disclosed in my prior patent issued August 20, 1918, No. 1,276,257, by providing an improved adjustable air regnlatingshutter construction, the latter serving to permit of a regulated intermingling of graduated quantities of a gaseous fuel with the oxygen of the atmosphere, in order that the burner may be adapted to variations in the flow rates of the fuel and to thereby permit of a more efiicicnt and economical consumption of the fuel.

T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that MORTIMER L. PAoKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fuel Mixers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gas burners and has for a primary object to provide a gas burner, particularly of the type disclosed in my prior patent issued August 20, 1918, No. 1,276,257, by providing an improved adjustable air regnlatingshutter construction, the latter serving to permit of a regulated intermingling of graduated quantities of a gaseous fuel with the oxygen of the atmosphere, in order that the burner may be adapted to variations in the flow rates of the fuel and to thereby permit of a more efiicicnt and economical consumption of the fuel.
Another object of the invention resides in providing a longitudinal fuel manifold with outwardly extending discharge tubes wherein air admitting pores are provided, in surrounding said tubes with air regulating sleeves wherein pores are provided capable, upon the rotation of said sleeves, of being brought into registration more or less with the pores provided in said tubes, whereby air may pass into said tubes and will be entrained and commingled with the fuel stream passing through said tubes for subsequent combustion and in providing means whereby said sleeves may be manually adjusted. 1 I
A further object of the invention rests in a burner wherein a plurality of mixing tubes are mounted in longitudinal array upon the fuel manifold, in providing. the air controlling shutters or sleeves of saidtubes with laterally offset projections which are adapted to be pivotally connected with a longitudinally extending link member and in connecting said link member with a manually operated lever which extends to a position where the same may be conveniently engaged for manual operation, the engagement being such that upon the oscillation of said lever, said link member will be reciprocated so as to efi'ect simultaneous rota-' tion on the part of said sleeves, thereby permitting of a uniform air adjustment to be made by a single operation in all of said tubes so that the entire length of the burner will be rendered uniform in its operation.

The bottoms 11 are provided with integral laterally projecting cars 12, to which a longitudinally extending actuating bar 18 is pivotally connected, the arrangement being such that upon the reciprocation of the bar 13, the said sleeves 8 will be simultaneously and uniformly rotated so as to govern the in-,
flow of air through the pores 7 and the slots 9. The bar may be actuated by means of a lever 14, which is pivoted at 15 upon a stationary bar of a stove casing 16, and the outer end of the lever projects through a slot 17 provided in the front wall of said casing. Obviously, by manipulating the the outer end of the lever i l, the latter may be oscillated so as to impart sliding movement to the bar 13, thereby causing; the partial rotation of the air admitting sleeves or shutters 8, and the consequent control the fuel mixture passing through the tube 6. This air adjustment has been found desirable in localities wherein the pre sure fluctuates to some consider c eaten, since by reason of the adius sment, the volume of air admitted into the tubes '6 may be readily controlled in accordance with the fuel pressure, so that the most el'licient and economical results from thecombustion of the fuel may be obtained at all pressures. It is in this respect mainly that the present invention differs from the construction set forth and claimed in my prior patent above given, as it will be observed that in said patent the inflow of air into the said tubes is constant at all times, and irrespective of fluctuation in the fuel pressures, a
condition which does not permit at all times of ellicient combustion. However, in the present invention the inflow of air may be easily and properly regulated so as to insure proper combustion and to permit of the inflow of air into the tubes in. a manner proportionate to the volume of fuel passing through such tubes. This construction results in a material improvement upon the construction disclosed in my aforesaid patent.
lt will be apparent that the air and fuel will flow through the tubes 6 and will be delivered into the reservoir 5. Then by the instrumentality of outlet tubes 18, the commingled gas and air will be permitted to flow from the reservoir 5 in order that combustion thereof may be effected at the tips of the tubes 18. The tubes 18 are located in parts, one of which being located on each side of each of the tubes 6, and the discharge ends of the tubes 6 are vertically spaced from the inlet ends of the tubes 18, a feature which results in causing the fuel stream to follow a circuitous path while passing through the mixer and to thus insure a thorough comn'iingling of the fuel with the air.
lVhat is claimed is:
1. A fuel commingling structure for gas burners, comprising a fuel supply pipe, a mixing receptacle disposed in cooperative relation with said pipe, an inlet member carried by said receptacle and situated so that one extremity thereof will be in alignment with an outlet opening formed in said pipe, the opposite end of said member extending into said receptacle, the lower end of said member being provided with an air inlet port, a manually operated shutter for controlling the effective area of said port, and discharge tubes carried by said reservoir and situated adjacent to said inlet momber.
2. A fuel commingling structure for gas burners comprisinp' a supply pipe liming longitudinally spaced outlet openings formed therein, a reservoir situated above said pipe, a plurality of tubes having the lower ends thereof disposed for registration with said openings, said tubes having ports provided contiguous to the lower ends thereof and positioned between said supply pipe and reservoir, slotted sleeves rotatably mounted around the lower ends of said tubes and operable upon adjustment to control the effective area of said ports, and
manually operated means for effecting simultaneous operation and uniform adjustment of said sleeves.
3. In a fuel mixer, a longitudinally extending supply pipe having spaced outlet openings formed therein, a longitudinally extending reservoir spaced from said pipe, tubes carried by said reservoir and having certain of the ends thereof arranged to pro ject beyond said reservoir and into cooperation with the openings in the supply pipe, said tubes between said pipe and reservoir being provided with air ports, shutters movably associated with said tubes and arranged upon manual operation to, control the effective area ofsaid ports, ears projecting from said shutters, and a master bar pivotally uniting said ears and adapted up on reciprocation to simultaneously and uniformly adjust said shutters.
