IMPROVEMENT IN -EXTENSION-TBLES..

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,954, dated August 19, 1873; application led May 17, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be itknown that I, CHRISTIAN RIEGER, of Morrisania, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tables, of which the following isa specification:

The invention consists 4in the improvement of extension-tables, as hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a View with the vtable reversed or bottom side up, showing the table extended. Fig. 2 is a view of the same, showing it folded up. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation ou the line x x, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section of Fig.3 in the line y y, showing the extension-legs with the extension-rail hinged thereto.

A A are the extension-rails, hinged to the rails of the side table B B at the points C C, and to the extension-legs l) D, as seen at E E. These extension-rails are each made in two pieces, connected together by the pivoted strips F F on the bottom and top of the rails. When the rails are extended they are held in position by means of the knob-buttons Gr G. These buttons are attached to one part, and turn on a central pivot over onto the other part, thus holding the two pieces parallel with the rails B B of the side table. The cover of the table is in two parts, hinged together, as represented, like ordinary card-tabl es. H is the extension side rail. When the extensionrail is drawn out, as represented in Fig. 1, the half of the table-top is turned over onto it, as seen in Fig. 3, thus making a square table. When the extension-rails are folded they are in the position seen in Fig. 2, with the half of the top turned back and resting on the other part ofthe top. I is a spring-catch on the bottom of the drawer-frame J, which engages with the lip K on the side rail H, which holds the parts seen/rely together.

When the table is extended the rails of the four sides present a uniform and finished appearance.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The side and extension rails, the buttons G, the drawer J, and the catches L K, combined as and for the purpose described.
