IMPROVEMENT IN MALLETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141.9 30, dated August 19, 1873 application led I f June 14, 1873.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT HoLBRooK, of Providence, Providence county, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mallets, oil which the fol lowing is a specification:
The object ot' this invention is to furnish a durable rawhidemallet for the use of machinists and others in putting together, taking apart, iixing, or adjusting metallic or Wooden machinery, and for all' similar purposes, and it ordinary manner. The socket or body A has a recess at one or both ends, which receives the heads D one or two, as seen in the drawing. These heads are made of rawhide coiled up and dried, and then turned to the desired size and shape. The heads are secured in the socket by means of a screw therein, as seen in the drawing.
Blows given with this mallet leave no dents on metallic work, itis, consequently, of the greatest value in putting together wroughtiron, steel, and brass work, driving keys, 85e., and for all purposes where it is desirable to avoid the marks of the hammer. f
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new and improved article of manufacture, a hammer constructedras shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
