i invention relates to manipulators and more particularly to manipulators of the stake type and has its best field of application to rolling mills which are provided with lifting tables that are pivoted 'at or near the end away from the rolls.
'lVith manipulators ofthe stake type as hertofore installed, it is 'not' possible to effect an equal movement of the ends 'of bars or other material under operation, although such movement is essential. This is especially diiiicult it such material is relatively long. This defect was due to -the fact that the vertical movement of apivoted table varies froma maximumv at the rolls to zero at the pivot.
My invention overcomes this defect by providing means for causing substantially the same relative movement between the table and the manipulating elements near the pivotal point of the table as that between the table'a'nd the elements near the rolls. By such an arrangement many advantages are secured and will be appreciated as this description 'proceeds. Y
My invention and its operation will be better understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part-thereof and in which- Figure 1 is anelevation of a three-high rolling mill with my invention applied thereto;

The table 7 is moved from the full line position in Figure 1, to the position indicated in dotted lines, by the motor mechanism' just described Positioned along the table 7 are stands 17 and 18. These stands are pivoted at19 and 20, respectively, to the base oi the machine, or to any other'fixed point. Guides 21 are mountedon the table 7 and provided with openings through which the manipulating' elements 22 and 23 pass. The stands 17 and 18, are provided with a pluralityof sockets 2d into which the lower ends of the elements 22 and 23 fit. These elements may be moved from one socket to the other to met the 'requirements'ot any particular case.

That is to say, the table 7 would be raised so that the material 36 would rest on the rollers in a horizontal position because of the fact that the rollers are above the ends of the manipulating elements. As soon as the material passes through the rollers, the table 7 is tilted around its pivot to the posit-ion shown in full lines in Figure 1. During the latter operation the rollers 8 are lowered, whereas the elements 22 and 23 remain stationary and the element 25 is given a relative motion equivalent to the relative motion between the table and the elements 22 and 23. During this movement, the material slides down the inclined face of the elements to the position shown in full lines in Figure t and in so doing is turned 90 degrees and is moved to the left, a distance depending upon the incline of the elements as shown in Figures 3 and 1. The incline, as shown in Figure 2, is sufiicient to bring the material from the pass in which it is indicated by the dotted lines 37, to the first groove at the left of the rolls. The material having been moved sidewise to the position indicated in Figure 4, and the table having been lowered to the position shown in Figure 1, the material is ready to pass through between the rolls 3 and 4 to the other side of the machine, which may be equipped with table and manipulatin; elements similar to that illustrated in Figure 1.
My invention has the advantage that the material is automatically kept in a position substantially perpendicular to the axis of the rolls on a machine in which the tilting table is pivoted at one end and has a movement varying in amount from the point near the rolls to that near the pivotal point and by reason of which construction any length of material may be used and, also, the material may be moved from one pass to the other and turned at the same time. Furthermore the device is simple and in its preferred form all the relative movement between the table and elements is produced by the movement of the table itself.
Other advantages will be apparent to to be understood thatI do not wish it to be limited to the exact details shown and described.
I claim: 1. In a manipulator, the combination of a feed table upon which the a e al under treatment is placed, said table being pivoted near one of its ends, means for raising and lowering the free end of the table, a plurality of manipulating elements arranged at different points along said table and means whereby a substantially equal relative vertical movement is produced between said table and all of said manipulating elements for turning and sliding the material under treatment preparatory to the next operation, substantially as described.
2. In a manipulator, the combination of a feed table upon which the material under treatment is placed, said table being pivoted near one of its ends, stationary manipulating elements near the free end of said table whereby the movement of said table is a definite amount relative to said elements, manipulating elements near the pivotal point of said table and means for actuating said elements whereby the relative movement between said last mentioned elements and said table is substantially the same as the movement between said first mentioned elements and said table, and means for moving said table around said pivot, substantially as described.
3. In a manipulator, the combination of a feed table upon which the material under.
treatment is placed. said table being pivoted near one of its ends, stationary manipulating elements near the free end of said table last mentioned elements and said table is substantiallv the same as the movement between said first mentioned elements and said table, and means for moving said table around said pivotal point, substantially as described.
4. In a manipulator. the combination of a feed table pivoted near one end, manipulating elements associated with said table at different points along its length, means for oscillating said table around said pivot and producing a relative vertical movement between said table and said elements, and means connecting some of said elements to said table whereby the relative movement between said table and all of said elements is substantially equal, substantially as de scribed.
5. In a manipulator, the combination of a feed table pivoted near one end, manipulating elements independent of said table,
and a manipulating element actuated by the table, substantially as described.
6. In a manipulator, the combinationof a feed table pivoted near one end, manipulating elements independent of said table, and a manipulating element actuated by a lever mechanism connected to the table, substantially as described.
7. In a manipulator, the combination of a feed table pivoted near one end, manipulating elements along said table at different distances from the pivotal point thereof, and means whereby the relative vertical movement between the table and all the elements is substantiall the same regardless of the distance of t e elements from the pivotal point of the table, substantially as described.
8. In a manipulator, the combination of a pivoted roll table, manipulating elements independent of said table, and a manipulating element actuated by said table whereby the relative movement between said last mentioned element and the table is substantially equal to the relative movement between the table and the independent manipulating elements, substantially as described.
9. In a manipulator, the combination of a pivoted roll table, manipulating elements along said table and at different distances from the pivotal point thereof and means operated by the table whereby the vertical movement of the table with respect to each of the elements is substantially the same and means for oscillating said table around said pivot, substantially as described.
10. In a manipulator, the combination of a pivoted roll table, a manipulating element independent of said table and a manipulating element connected to said table by lever mechanism to equalize the relative movement between the table and said manipulating elements, substantially as described.
11. In a manipulator, the combination of a pivoted table, manipulating elements independent of said table and manipulating elements actuated by said table and a speed changing device operatively connecting said last mentioned elements to said table, where by the relative movement between the table and all of said elements issubstantially the same, substantially as described.
