lVorth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have, invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Grain-Car-Door Openers, of which the following isaspecificat-ion, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings;
This invention relates to a grain car door opener, and the object ofthe invention is the provision-of simple and efficient. means that can be readily applied for the opening of a grain-car door that; preferably is constructedof parts which are nailed-or otherwise fastenedtotheframe of the car.
With this and-other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novelcombinations, constructions andarrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the lever, which comprises a body 2 and a. handle 3. The body 2 is provided with an elongated slot 4 and a plurality of notches 5; the outer end 6, of the body 2, extends at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the main portion of the body, and pivotally mounted on bolt or rivet 7 is an auxiliary jaw device 8. Pivotally mounted on bolt 9 is a primary jaw device 10; bolt 9 may be seated in either one of the notches 5, for the purpose hereinafter specified.

The. auxiliary jaw device 8' comprises a,
extending spurs or teeth 19 are formed upon the ends of the body 17, for engaging and penetrating a wood board 20 (Fig. 2).
The operation of the device is as follows: The device is supported by cable 16 in an accessible position for the operator to quickly swing the device so as to place either one of jaws 14 inside of the car against the door frame 21; the teeth 15 will be forced into the door frame 21, as soon as downward pressure is brought to bear upon the handle 3 of the lever 1, and as the downward movement increases, the bolt 9 can be moved up to the next notch 5, so as to always gain the greatest amount of leverage, which will result in forcing-the board 20 away from the door frame 21 and upward at the same time, as shown by dotted lines 2O so that each successive board is removed from the frame work of the car and forced upwardly above the grain that is stored in the car, allowing the grain to fall out of the car-door and be discharged into a suitable receptacle provided for this purpose, whether it be a chute, or conveyor, or the like (not shown).
Heretofore, in order to remove the doors, or the like, it has been necessary to chop or saw'the same, which requires about thirty minutes time, whereas, they are removed by my device in about three and one-half is in danger of being injured by the boards as they are forced out by the grain. This may occur as well if he stands up in the car and the boards give way under the saw or ax, whereas, by the use of my device, the operator stands six or more feet away from the car door, clear of the grain as it escapes,
and there is no possible chance to be injured.
When the'boards are sawed or chopped out, they are necessarily destroyed and cannot be used again, whereas, by the use of my device, they are simply lifted up and left intact and may be used again. Quite a saving results "from the use of my device.
"While I have described the preferred embodiment ofmy invention, and have illustrated the same inthe accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.

'1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a lever, a jaw device straddling said lever, said jaw device provided with 'oppositely-extendin jaws, teeth on said jaws, and a second aw device carried by said lever. Q

In a device of the class described, the I combination of a lever, a primary jaw device straddling said lever, means fastening said jaw device to said lever, said jaw device provided with oppositely-extending jaws, wood-penetrating means formed on the inner faces of said aws, and an auxiliary jaw device carried by said lever.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination of a lever, a primary jaw device carried by said lever comprising a pair of plates, a sleeve between said plates, at rivet in said sleeve and plates, said plates provided at their outer ends with integral,
right-angularly-disposed jaws, said jaws provided on their inner faces with integral, inwardly and downwardly extending spurs or teeth, and an auxiliary jaw device carried by said lever.
