P. C.-PACHESA.
WINDOW SCREEN ADJUSTER. APPLICATION F|LED MAY-6.1921.
1 &1 "F, 104,, I Patented. May 23, 11.922.
* iif I ATTORNEY.
WINDOW-SCREEN ADJ amina.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 223, 1922.
Application filed May 6, 1921. Serial No. 461.2%.
To allcuhom it may concern Beiit known that 1, PETER CAROL PAoHnsA,
v, a citizen of the'United States, residing at Taylor Springs, county of Montgomery, and
State of Illinois, have inventedcertain new and useful improvements in Window-Screen Adjusters, of which the following is a specification, v t
The principal object of this invention is to provide a spring operated, adjustablewindow screen. i
Another ob ect is 111 the provislon made 7 for the close contact-ability of the screen with the Window frame and the mechanism employed in obtaining it.
These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevational view, having one corner broken away to show the interior arrangement of parts.
Figure 2 is an end elevational view of the same, and,
lhgure 3 1s a sect onal view taken on line 3-43 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a detail View of the operating parts on an enlarged scalew Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 designates a lower window sash of ordinary design slid-ably secured within the window frame or casing 11.
A net 14 is made of loosely woven material having a rectangular mesh and adapted to be wound upon a roll. A bar or binding strip 15 is folded and secured to the top of the net let and has extending lugs 16 attached thereon, removably secured to the lower section of the window sash 10 by the screws 17. p p
The window sill 18 is divided lengthwise, and the elements-separated forming a narrow elongated aperturefor the operation of the net 14. A. roll 20, rotatably mounted withinsuitable bearings 21. and 22, has fastened to it the net 14 in the space below the sill 18. i a
An outwardly extending pin 25 is fixed within the end of the roll 20 and passes. through the side casing 22 and the bracket 26, which contains a spiral spring 27 having its outer end attached to the frame 26am]. its inner end to the pin 25.
The bracket 26 is fastened to the jamb 12 sill 18 and is pivotally secured within itby a pin 35. v
lin operation, a closed window connected to a screen or net, passing through a slotin the window sill, and rolled upon a roller having a spiral spring attached thereto, will by the act of opening the window, cause the screen to follow and wind up the spring, and which, by means of the spring operated locking pawl and ratchet, also attached to the roll end and window casing, prevent the spring from unwinding and the net from being re-rolled. p
Previous to closing the window, an upward pull on the locking pawl, releases the ratchet and the torsionalpull of the wound up spring will cause the roll to turn, rolling the screen upon it and allowing the window to follow the downward movement, 1
, Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Leta window frame, a sash operable therein,
the sill of said frame containing a narrow passage extending the width of the window opening, of a roller rotatably mounted below said sill and extending from jamb to amb of said frame, a bracket secured on the out side of one of said jambs, a spindle lined in said roller extending through said jamb and said bracket, a flat spiral spring fixed at one end to said bracket and at the other to said pintle, a ratchet wheel on said spindle, a pawl engageable with said ratchet wheel, said pawl being operable from the exterior of the window frame, and a screen passing through said passage and engaged at its ends respectively with said sash and said roller.
in testimony whereof I have affixed my loa
