Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 16, 1922.
Application filed November 22, 1920. Serial No. 425,849.
To all whom t 77mg/ concer/1t:
Be it known that I, ARTI-Inn ALEXANDER, a citizen of the United States, and a resi.- dent ot the city oi' New York, borough oi Brooklyn, in the county of TSings and State of New York, have invented a new and lmproved Game Apparatus, of which the following is a description.
My invention relates to a game apparatus in which stationary shooters and movable targets are employed.
The general object of 'the invention is to provide a novel game apparatusof such a character that a large number of players may engage in a contest and in which ball targets or equivalent target elements are dislodged from a traveling supporting structure, accumulated dislodged targets factoring in determining the winner of the game.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speci- ;tication, it heilig understood that the drawings are merely illustrative oi one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a game apparatus embodying my invention, parts being broken away;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of a shooter that may be employed;
Figure 3 is a vertical section as indicated by the line 3--3, Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of a portion of the apparatus on an enlarged scale;
Figure 5 is a detail in vertical section .illustrating a supporting means that may be employed 'for the traveling target carrier.
ln carrying out my invention in accordance with theillustrated example a lixed table 1() is provided which preferably is in the Form of a round table and spaced from the table and in fixed position is a combined rail and gun mount structure 1 1 which preferably, in accordance with the round form of table 10, is of annular form and concentric with said table. The table 10 when of round form has a central opening 13 to accommodate an attendant. The table is Jformed into compartments which are radially positioned in the case of a round table, the compartments being 'formed by an inner wall 14, common to all the compartments, side walls 15, and a front wall 16.
The traveling carrier 12 has standards 17 or equivalent supports cup-shaped at the top to receive balls 1S so that the attendant may place a ball 0n each standard, the standards advantageously in practice corresponding with the number of partitionsf The outer lixed structure 11 is also divided into compartments corresponding with those of the table 10, the compartments being delined by an inner wall 19, an outer wall 20, and side walls 21.
Shooters are provided on the outer structure 11 at each compartment thereof. Each shooter 22 may consist of a barrel 01"' suitable length having a. plunger 23 therein provided with a plunger head Q4 at the liront, said plunger being acted upon by a roil spring 25 secured at its rear end at 25 to the gun at the rear o'l the bore thereof and secured at its 'liront end as at 25 to the head 24.-. Thus, the spring and head 24 are held positively within the barrel. Any suitable iirameworlr 26 may be provided tor table 10 and iixed structure 11. The game is intended more particularly for use summer resorts and in other public places and the structure will have a height so that players may use the apparatus while standing.
The structure 11 is spaced from the adjacent edge oit the table 10 a su'liicient distance to provide an intervening slot through which the standards 17 rise to a suitcient height above the table top and the partition walls to cause the balls 18 to travel in a plane to be dislodged by impact ot a plunger The target carrier 12 is in the form of a iiat ring beneath and closing the space between the table 10 and the structure 11.
'The traveling target larrier 12 whichV is manually turned is supported on rollers that it may be turned with iliacility and continue to move under its momentum and :ulditional rollers are advantageously provided at the side edges ot said carrier to prevent displacement oi the carrier in its own plane. ln the illustrated iform vertical rollers 2T, 27 are provided near each side edge, said rollers turning on horizontal pins or screws 29 on blocks 3() secured respectively to the structure 11 and table 1() adjacent to the slot presented therebetween, said blocks being secured by vertical bolts 31, 31a on which the horizontal rollers 2S, 2S are provided at the side edges of the carrier 12. 32 are nuts of bolts 31.
With a game apparatus constructed as described a player is stationed at each shooter 09 and therefore opposite a table compartment, the object of each player being to dislodge the successive balls 1.8 trom the travelingl carrier as the balls pass individual shooters. The balls dislodged by a given shooter will be retained in the compartment in line therewith and said compartments may have means factoring in the count of the gaine,
there beingshown live depressions in eachv compartment and therefore to each shooter and these depressions may as indicated in Figure 4 be `given different values; thus the pair ot depressions nearest the shooter having for example the value lit), the tvvo distant depressions, the value of 50, While the centrally disposed depression may have the value of 100.
One table compartment indicated as at A in Figure l and the corresponding compartment B of the outer structure ll may respectively be tree of the depressions and shooter and a second attendant may be stationed adjacent the compartment B at the outside ot structure ll for collectingthe entrance Vtee for partaking' in the game and generally looking after the Convenience of the players or affording" any needed guidance or instruction to the players.
rlhe shooters Q2 in the preterred form of the invention are stationary, the same being pivotally mounted on gun mounts 22 on the structure ll but obviously portable shooters may be employed.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment ot' my invention, do not limit myself strictly to the mechanical details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied Without departure from the spirit ot the invention 4as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
An apparatus of the class described in- @hiding` a table, a structure adjacent to said table at which players may station themselves, said structure and table being` spaced to present a slot therebetween, shooters mounted on said structure and disposed toward the table, a traveling target carrier in the form ot a -iat ring beneath and torming a closureof said slot, said ring extending beneath both the said structure and said table, and rollers on the table-andren said structure at the under side, on which rollers the said ring` is supported at each side laterall y' of said slot, and target` supports on said carrier between the table andsaid structureadapted to receive targets tor carrying the targets past the shooters between said shooters and the table, said shooters adapted to be projected into the path of movement of the targets for dislodging the latter.
