Description
N. P. HALL. Music-Leaf Turners.
NO. 141,644. PatentedAug usH2,1873- wows. [kw/5Z0 '1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE NORMAN P. HALL, OF JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN MUSIC-LEAF TURNERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,644, dated August 12, 1873 application filed May 13, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NORMAN I. HALL, of Janesville, in the county of Rock and State of Wisconsin, have invented an Automatic lVIusic-Turner, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to a combination of revolving arms with adjustable fingers, to be inserted between the leaves of music, by which they are turned, at the will of the performer upon any musical instrument, by touching a key, the arms being thereby released consecutively from the latch by which they are held in regular order.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the machine as it appears when in use with the arms folded and the fingers engaging the levers. Fig. 2 is a lateral view, showing the arms open, in the condition it is when the music has just been removed after using it.
A is the base or foundation on which the music is placed, and to which the machinery compound latch for holding the revolving arms 13, so constructed that the arms are al- G is a key connected lowed to pass down.
with compound latch F by a combination or series of levers, so that a touch upon said key Gr disengages the first arm and allows it to pass, and holds the others until the key is touched again, when the next arm is released, and so on until all the arms have been liberated, turning a leaf at a time, at the will of the performer. The machine may have as many of these revolving arms as may be necessary for the longest piece of music. H is the rest, having grooves of different depths for the arms; and I a guide to the same.
I make no claim to the mode in which the leaves of a music-book are turned by means of swinging arms, nor to the upright position of the fingers when in use, for these are not new but I claim as my invention- 1. The combination of the compound latch F, to allow the arms to pass in going down and to hold them until released, with the combination-lever attachment and key G, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
2. In combination with the revolving arms B, the horizontal springs E, attached as described, adjustable fingers O, rests H, guides I, compound latch E, and combination lever and key G, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose hereinbcfore set forth.
