Description

PATNT OFFICE.
FREID L. CIZEK, OF CEDAR RAPIIS, IOWA.
COMBINED SCREEN AND STORM DOOR.
Application fi1ed November 29, 1921.
To (LZZ who/m, it may camera:
Be :it known. that I, Fnno L. (h'znn, a citizen ot the United States, residing at (ledar Rapids, in the county oil" Linn and State ot lowa, have invented certain new and nse'tnl llnjprovements in `(lombine'd Screen and `Storm Doors; and I do hereby deelare the following to be a full, clear,` and exact description of the inventioin snch Will enable others sltilled in the art to which it appertains to make and nse the same.
` This invention relatesto the constrnction o" Storm and screen doors, and the object ot the invention is to provide such doors With simple and eificient :means for fastening removable screened or glazed panele in place in such doors, so that the door may be easily,
and qnickly ehanged from a screen door, for summer use, to a storrn door, for Winter use, or vice versa The inventioi'i fully disclosed in the description and claims following, reference being had to the accompanying dmwing, in which Fig. 1 is an elevation oit a door embodying; my in'vention. Fig. 2 is a section ill'ns- `trating the invention, on the line 2---2 ot Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3------3 of' Fig. 2. Fig. -f shows a modified term ot tnstcnerj detached.
` In the drawing, the nnineral denotes an auxiliary door, which is rabbetted at 6 to receive inset screen frames 7, or glazed sash 8. At suitable holding points, pre'terably about tonr, as shown, holes 9 are bored in the door-stiles, and partly in the inset screen or Storm-sash frame, as best shown in Fig. 3, to receive a large-bodied, deeply threaded screw 10. Across the partial hole in the frame is made a saW-keri" 11, and in this is set a strip 12 of metal, of suitable thickness to be engaged by the screw at one side, as shown. The strip is best attached. by forminlr tangs 12 thereon, and driving it .in place in the saw-kert. It then bridges the partial hole in the frame, and serves as a clampi'ng plate to bind the frame snngl'y in its Seat.`

[ts length gives it a considerable bearino' along the wood and tends to prevent split: tingi; ot the wood nn der the strain of the tastcner, or otherwise.
The screw has a suitable head, pre'terably tlat nnderneath as shown in Fig'. 3, which has less tendeney to split the wood than the conntersnnk type oji! head shown in Firm lt. This fignre illnstrates an expedient tor aiihiding the cntting of a deep threach by seenrin to the screW-shanh, as by Weldinir, a short coil ot sti'ff Wire 10% which pcrlbrms the same tnnction as does the .srrew in Finu 8. draifivino; the parts together by the turiiino ot an inclinod member nmlerthe clampn'; Strip.
In practice the panele should he inserted on the nmer side ot the dooi With vtasteners on the same side. so that When the door is hooked the panels cannot be nnlawtnlly remoyed from the outsideIU Having thns described; my nvention, l claim:
l. The coml'iination with a door, rabhetted to receive screen or Storm-sash, and bored to receive tasteinlrs, of sash partially bored coineidently With the dooi'., clampinn-plates set aeross said partial horing. and deeplythreaded .asteners set in the bored holes` and mterceptinn' the clampiing-plates at one side.
2. `(lomhined With a door. rabbetted to receive screen or Storm-sash, and borcd ad'iacent to the rabbcts ter tastenine' members. insertible sash. partially bored, coineidently. With the door the borinn's ot the sash beingI crossed by saW-kerfs, tanged metal strips driren therein, and tnrnable tasteners seated. in the hored. holes, and having inf-,lined lateral extensions to engage said str'ips. i
In testimony whereoit l atiix my Signature in preseinfe ot two witnesses.
