IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 14l,533, dated August 5,1873; application filed May 17, 1873. r
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, THOMAS G. ANDREWS and ANDREWS RIVIERE, of Barnesville, in the county of Pike and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side view of our improved plow, partsbeing broken away to show the construction. Fig. 2 is a detail section of the same taken through the line x 00, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the plow-plates. Fig. 4. is a detail view of a scraper.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
Our invention has for its object to improve the construction of plows, so that the plowplates maybe secured firmly to the standard without bolts, and in such a way as to present no unevenness for the soil to catch upon, and which will enable the plow-plate to be quickly attached and detached. The invention consists in the lever-brace, pivoted at its rear end to the slotted lower end of the plow-standard, secured at its forward end detachably to the plow-beam, and provided with a shoulder or pin for securing the plow-plate detachably to said standard, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the plow-beam, to the rear end of which are attached the handles B and the standard (3. The lower part of the standard 0 is mortised or recessed to receive the lower end of the lever-brace D, which is pivoted in said recess by a pin, rivet, or bolt. The upper end of the brace-lever D projects along the under side of the beam A, and enters a longitudinal groove in said beam, where it is secured in place by a band, E, slipped over it upon said beam. F is the plow-plate, in the upper part of which is formed a slot to receive the brace-lever D, which slot is passed over the forward end of the brace-lever D, and slipped back until the said plow-plate F rests upon the standard 0, where it is held in place by a shoulder formed upon the upper edge of the rear part of the said brace-lever D, the rear end of the brace-lever projecting forward sufficiently to rest against the plow-plate at the lower end of the slot in said plow-plate, and thus lock it in place. If desired, the slot in the plow-plate F may be extended out through the end of said plate, as shown in Fig. 3. In this case the upper end of the plow-plate is held in place by a pin passed through a hole in the brace-lever D. The forward side of the lower part of the standard 0 is concaved or recessed to give elasticity to the plow-plate, and to form a recess to receive a scraper, G, when required.
Having thus described our invention, we
claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The lever-brace D, pivoted at its rear end to the slotted lower end of the standard 0, secured at its forward end detachably to the beam A, and provided with a shoulder or pin for securing the plow-plate F detachablyto said standard 0, substantially as herein shown and described.
