Be it known that I, ELMER B. MCCART- KEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivator- Tooth F astenings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a novel means for fastening cultivator or harrow teeth. This construction provides a tooth fastening which not only securely holds the tooth in fixed working position but also permits of ready removal. A secure fastening is es sent-ial'to meet the severe strains to which such teeth are subjected under working conditions such as the striking of stones and other obstructions. It is desirable also that the tooth or teeth be easily removable for replacement or repair.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved cultivator tooth fastening.
Other. objects of the invention will more fully appear from the following description and the accompanying drawings and Wlll be pointed out in the annexed claims.
In the accompanying drawings, there has been disclosed a structure designed to carry out the objects of the invention, but it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the exact features shown, as various changes may be made within the scope of the claims which follow.

This novel tooth fastening means is adapted for use in combination with substantially parallel frame bars 5 and 6 which preferably reach from end to end of a cultivator or harrow section. The implement teeth or tools are adapted to be carried between these parallel bars in this novel construction and as all teeth are similarly fastened, it will be necessary to describe but one. This novel fastening device consists generally of a clamping member adapted to engage one of the bars and of means cooperablewith one bar and the clampingmember to cause opposed bar portions to be forced toward each cent bar so that the wedge 11 adapted to be driven in the alined forward slots 10 engages the side face of the adjacent bar. The wedge also reacts against the rear faces of the slots 10 and thereby functions to cause the bars to be forced toward each other'and the tooth to be tightly frictionally clamped in position. Preferably a clip 12 is also inserted in the alined slots 10 just before the wedge is inserted. This clip is provided with flaring terminal portions 13. This clip assures a better frictional engagement of the'wedge and yoke ends and the curved portions 13 function to prevent divergence or spreading of the yoke ends when the wedge is driven into tooth-clamping position.
As the parallel bars are preferably without grooves, the yokes and teeth may be moved longitudinally to a plurality of spaced positions and similarly the teeth may be fixedly clamped in a plurality of vertical adjustments. Replacement and repair of teeth is facilitated by this construction as the defective tooth. or teeth may be quickly removed by the upward displacement of the wedge 11.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a cultivator, the combination of parallel bars, a yoke embracing the bars, a tooth positioned between the bars and extending through the yoke, and means cooperable with one bar and the yoke to cause opposed bar portions to be forced toward each other whereby the tooth is clamped therebetween.
2. In a cultivator, the combination of parallel bars, a tooth adapted to be positioned between the bars, a yoke embracing the bars and provided with free ends projecting beyond the bars, the yoke ends having apertures extending rearwardly beyond the adjacent bar, and a wedge adapted to be inserted in said apertures whereby the wedge may press against the adjacent bar and the yoke and thereby cause the bars to be forced toward each other and the tooth. clamped therebetween.
3. In a cultivator, the combination of parallel bars, a tooth adapted to be positioned between the bars a yoke embracing the bars and provided With slotted free ends projecting beyond the bars, a Wedge adapted to be inserted in the slots whereby the Wedge may press against the adjacent bar and the yoke and thereby cause the bars to be forced toward each other and the tooth "clamped therebetween, and a clip adapted to be inserted in the slots to prevent spreading of the yoke ends.
