UNlTE' aracHAnLEs A, Buses, or nice LAKE, w'rscortsrn 1 nor-am r peness. 5
Be it knownthat I, Q -rAnnns A. Buses, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rice Lake, in the county of Barron and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hotdrir Furnaces; and I (lo-hereby: declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description. of the invention such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to heating appliances and more particularly to furnaces for supplying hot air and embodying a plurality of casings surrounding thefire pot.
The present invention provides a hot air fu'rnacehaving a direct draft and a circuitous passage for the smoke andgases and concentric hollow casings included 'inthe circuitous smoke and gas: passage, whereby a maximum amount of heat is available for eflective service in heating; 1-
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest-themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood .that in adapting the same to meet diffei ent conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application, V
Figure 1 is a vertical central section of a. hot air furnace of the p'ipeless type embodying the invention,
Figure 2 is a diagrammatic section on the "line 2-2 of Figure l, and c Figure 3 is a diagrammatic section on the Correspondingand like parts are referred to in the following description and desig' nated in the several views ofthe drawings by like reference characters.
The hot air furnace disclosed embodies a cast metal base 1 and aregister 2. The body of the furnace is mounted centrally upon the base 1 and comprises an ash pit 3 and a combined fire pot and combustion chamber 4. These parts may be of any approved construction. The outermost casing com-- H prises a cylindrical portion'5, mounted upon the outer portion of thebase 1, a conical or tapering portion 6 and an upper contracted rality of short radiating tubes 9. A, second low casing 8 surrounds-the combined fire pot and combustion "chamber 1 and is in SpeeificatiOn of Letters Patent. tg t a ,1 Ap plication fi led September ifwaldserial nee 137,595
communication at it s 1 upper end with the 7 upper end of the part l by means ofa pl'u-.
hollow casing surroundsthe hollow casing 8 and conforms to the outermost casing and p comprises a cylindrlcal portion 10, a'conical ortapering portion 11 and an'upper contracted cylindrical portion 12'. The-cylindrical portionlO isdisposed in thespace between thecasing 8 and the 'part 5 of the tubes 13. The parts lliand' "12 are disposed outermost casing and is in communication at its lower end w th the lower portion of "therasing 8" by" means of short radiating 7 5 inthe space above the part aascrcoarorm' to,
1 the parts 6 fand Ygofgthe outermost casing. Afsmoke pipe 14 connects with the upper.
part 112 of the outer hollow casing and-1s provided with adamper 15 A smoke pipe 7 16 connects with'the upper portion of'the inner hollow casing 8 and is provided with a closely fitting damper 17. '*The to-pnof the outer casing connects wit-lithe, register' 2.-
WVhen the furnace is of the pipeless variety as indicated inithe drawings, the cold air passes through the outer portion of theregister 2 into the cold air spacefo-rmed between the outermost casing and the outer hollow casing and the'hot air escapes through the 1 central portion of the register after being heated in its passage through the spaces formedbetween the l1ollowcasing and the body of the furnace.
a When a direct draft is required to cant-fie the fire toburn brisklyor when starting the furnace, the valve '1'? isopened thereby providing a direct escape'for the smoke and products of combustion. After the'fire has attained the desired headway, the damper 1 17 is closed therebycompellingthe pro clucts i of combustion to travel in a circuitous passage represented by the parts 9, 8, 13, 10, 11, and 12.
The walls 5f the combined fire and I combustion chamber and the hollowcasing and the pipe connections9 and 13 present a.
large area of heating Surface for warming" 7 lit,
the air passing thereover or adjacent thereto. It will thus beunderstood that a'rela-- tively high percentage of the heat developed by the consumption of the fuel is utilized for heating purposes. The structure is simple and compact and the spaces between the heating surfaces may be of such extent 1 as to obtain the best results the utilization the art and form no part of the present inyention. r V Having thus described my invention what I claim is a 1. hot air furnace comprising a body including a fire pot and combustion chainber, 'a hollow casing surrounding said body, short pipesradiating from the upper portion of the body andconnecting the same with: the upper portion of thehollow casing, a second hollow. casingsurrounding the primary hollow casing, short radiating pipes connecting the .lowerportions of the primary and secondary hollow casings a smoke pipe connected with the upper portion of the primary casing and provided in its length with a close fitting damper and a second moke pipe connected with the upper portion of the second hollow casing and having a damper in its length;
2. A hot air furnace comprising a body including a fire pot and combustionchainher, an outer casing enclosing the body and comprising a lower cylindrical portion, an 7 intermediate tapered portion and an upper,
contracted cylindrical portion, a primary hollow casing surrounding the body, short radiating pipes connecting the u pperportions of the body and primary hollow casing a smoke pipe leading frointhe upper portion of the primary casing and provided "in its length with a close fitting dampen'a secondary hollow casing comprising a lower cylindrical portion, an intermediate tapered portion, and anupper contracted cylindrical portion, a smoke pipeleading from the upper portion of the secondary casing and -pro 7 V vided in its length with a damper, and short radiating pipes connecting the lower por- In testimony whereof I afiix ny signature in presenceof two witnesses;
