construction and lwhich. willV be absolutely positive and reliable' in' operation and thus insure a pen which will function in al thoroughly efficient andl desirable manner.
Another object of my invention is the provision of al self-filling fountain pen, the mechanism of which, will be entirely concealed and protected but capable of instant access when desired and which by reason of 'its few operating parts will not get out of repair or order owing to constant usage and which will thus be entirely practical.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a fountain pen of the self-filling type whose mechanism will be small andl compact to occupy 'a very small space and which will have a large ink carrying capacity and which will function perfectly in the filling of the reservoir as well as in the complete discharge of said reservoir and thus generally provide a fountain pen which will meet every requirement in an article of this character.
Vith the attainment of the objects stated in View my invention consists of a fountain pen embodying novel features of 'construction 'and combination ofparts for service substantially as shown, described and particularly defined and distinguished by the claims.
The details of construction embodied in my improvement and the operation of the y mechanism will be readily understood and its many features of merit and advantages will be appreciated from the accompanying drawing, in whichz;
Figure 1 represents a view partly in section and partly in elevation of a self-filling fountain pen constructed according to my Application med' April y3o,
specicafilo'ifof ttt'riraient.' Paten-ted Apr, 25, 1922,

invention, the parts being in the position ythey occupy when the elastic container or reservoir is lled and ready for use.
Fig. 3 represents a similar view with the parts in the position they occupy when the reservoir has been completely depressed acts in conjunction with said reservoir en-v gaging member.
. Fig. 6 represents an end view showing the position of the finger. lever for operating the resrvoir engaging and the spring member, Fig. 7represents a perspective view of the peculiar shaped finger lever forming apart of my invention., I v
Referring by numeral to the. drawing in which similar numbers of reference are employed to denote like partsin all the views: The numeral l designates the body or barrel of the fountain pen which is of hollow construction provided at one end with threads 2, to receive a suitable protecting cap and having mounted in its reduced end 3, the pen 4 and co-acting capillary member 5, which parts are of the usual or any preferred construction fand disposed in said hollow barrel is the elastic bulb providing the container or reservoir 6, Whose outer closed end 7 is disposed near the outer closed endl 8 of the barrel or body while the inner open end of the reservoir as usual communiT cates with the pen and capillary member.
The container or reservoir when filled occupies the position shown. in Fig. 1A, with the spring strip or reservoir engaging member 9, resting entirely upon the said elastic reservoir, While one end' of said member is provided with a curved portion 10, to accommodate its position to the said reservoir, and upon its upper side contiguous to said curved portion 10 is formed with a pair of horizontally slotted ears l1, in which is fitted the ends of the transverse head 12, formed at the inner end of the elastic or spring member rel of the pen and retains said spring member in proper relation to the reservoir and reservoir engaging member.
From this construction it will noted that the elastic container or reservoir entirely fills the barrel of the pen and extends practically throughout its length, While the practically rigid engaging member bears against one entire face of said reservoir and upon movement of the angle shaped lever 15, which is pivoted at 16 in the end of said barrel and has one corner pivotedat 17, to said reservoir engaging member, by engagement Vof the finger with the finger portion 18, of said lever, the said engaging member is first moved to theposition shown in Fig. 2 and upon further movement to the position shown in Fig,3, the reservoir is entirely compressed and upon release or movement of the finger lever to the return position of Fig. 1, the reservoir is completely filled With ink.
It Will be seen that the action is positive and reliable and thatgthe parts cooperate to completely discharge the ink from the reservoir ,and as completely produce a suction action to fill the reservoir, the peculiar construction and connection between the lever, the spring member and the reservoir engaging member effecting the desired end.
It will be apparent that I provide a fountain pen `Which Will prove thoroughly efficient and practical in every particular and further, that the construction is such as to insure simplicity, cheapness of production and durability and also the provision of an attractive and small fountain pen of the self' filling variety.
I claim: n
1. In a fountain pen, the combination with the barrel or body and the elastic reservoir disposed therein, a lever fulcrumed i-n said barrel or body, a reservoir engagin member having one end connected to said ever and movable ina longitudinal direction, and an' 'elastic member having its outer end anchored in the barrel and its inner end loosely connected ,with theinner end of said reservoir engaging member.
2. In a` fountain pen, With the barrel or body and the elastic reservoir disposed therein, areservoir engagingy member capable of longitudinal movement to depress said elastic reservoir, and a spring member cooperating With said reservoir engaging member, and a finger lever connected with said reservoir engaging member to effect compression of said reservoir.
3. In a fountain pen, the combination With the barrel or body and the elastic reservoir disposed therein, a reservoir engaging member capable of longitudinal movement to depress said elastic reservoir, and a spring member cooperating with said reservolr en.
gaging member, and a finger lever connected with said reservoir engaging member to effect compression of said reservoir, said connection between the spring member and reservoir engaging member being at the inner end of said members and permitting -an accommodating movement between the same.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my.
signature.
