Be it known that I, TOBY Bnnovrrs, a citizen of the United States, residing at 517 South Wells Street, Chicago, in the county of Cooleand State of Illinois, have invented anew'and useful Improvement in a Combined Letter Sheet and Envelope, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a combined letter sheet and envelope. and more especially to a device adapted to be made out of a flat sheet of paper, so cut, formed'and creased as to permit'the same to have written or printed thereon suitable wording oradvertising matter and then folded and sealed in order.

One of the features of the device is its construction which permits it to be folded in such a manner as to form an envelope without the use of any gummed edges or surfaces. Other features and advantages of my invention will appear more fully as I proceed with my specification.

In that form of device embodying the features of my invention shown in the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of my combined letter sheet and envelope opened out flat, Fig. 2 is a viewin perspective showing the same partly fold ed. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the same almost completely folded, Fig. 4 is a ViGWIiIl perspective of the device, with a part broken away, showing the same completely folded and containing within it a card, Fig. 5 is a view in perspective of a modified form of the device and 6 is a view in perspective of another modified form.

As shown in the drawings 10 indicates in general a rectangular shaped sheet of paper having short slots cut in one of its short edges as indicated by 12 and 13. The sheet 10 is also provided with two parallel longi tudinal score lines as indicated by 15 and 16.

The line 15 is placed close to one of the edges and the line 16 is located at about the center of the remaining part of the'paper. Transverse score lines 18 and 19 are similarly arranged transversely of the paper, the line 18 lying close to the ends of the slots 12 and 13. The score lines may be made in any ordinary manner to assist in folding the paper on such lines.

per surface of the sheet of paper as shown in Fig. 1 may be written upon, or any advertisement,display or wording may be printed thereon. The sheet is then'folded on the line 16 and the marginal edge folde'd over the edge 31 by creasing on thefline.v

l5, whereupon the sheet will be folded as shown in Fig. 2. The slots 12 and 13'are'so placed that" when the sheet is so folded such slots will register. The'deviceis then folded on-the lines 19' and '18 as shown in Fig. 3 and the marginal part 40 tucked under the edge 11 and over the edge 42. The slots 12 and 13 will facilitate the tucking of the part 40 in between the 'edges ll and 4=2by permitting a slightbverlapping ofthe adjacent edges of the paper at such slots to I shorten somewhat the end of the edge.

If desired, the device may also be used as i an envelope, and there may be enclosed Within it flat objects, such as cards having samples of cloth attached thereto. In Fig. 4 there is shown enclosed in the device a card indicated by '50 having pasted on its surface a sample of cloth as indicated by 51. When using the device in such a manner, the card or other insertion may be put into the paper after the same has been folded, by simply slipping it in under the edge 41 and above the tongue 40. The. insertion should be small enough to permitit to be forced in until its edge clears the end of the tongue 40 (see Fig. 4). When it is placed in this positionit is prevented from slipping out by such tongue 40.. The slots 12 and 13 in the tongue 40 also assist in retaining the insertion in the device by causing different parts of the edge of such tongue 40 to separate thus more completely filling the space hetweenthe edges 41 and 4P2 of the paper to prevent the insertion from falling out. p In Fig. 5 I have shown. a modified form of the device in which the distance between, the scores or creases 18 and 19 is somewhat longer than the distance between the score or crease l9 and the edge of the paper. In this form of device the slots 12 and 13 are also dispensed with. In this construction it will be noted that'the edge 41 (corresponding to the edge 4-1 in the preferred form) does not come so near to the crease 18 (corresponding to the crease 18 in the preferred form) when the device is completely folded.

When the device is so formed, a postage in the preferred form) edge 11 and onto the tongue 40 (corresponding to the part 40 in the preferred form) to further seal the device.

The modified form shown in Fig. 6 is similar to the one shown in Fig. except that the part 40" (corresponding to the part 40 is provided with two sets of registering slots as indicated by 60 and 61, similar to the slots 12 and 18 in the preferred form, to assist in retaining within the folded device an insertion such as indicated by the card 71.

\Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by'Letters Patent is:

1. A COlllblllBCl letter sheet and envelope formed from a substantially rectangular shaped flat sheet of paper, folded longitudin ally and then twice transversely, one of such transverse folds being near the end of the sheet to form a tongue or marginal part adapted to be inserted between adjacent surfaces formed by the longitudinal fold, said tongue or marginal part being provided with a slot.

2 A combined letter sheet and envelope formed from a substantially rectangular shaped flat sheet of gitudinally, then twice transversely, one of said transverse folds being near the end of the sheet to form a tongue or marginal part adapted to be inserted between adjacent surfaces formed by one of the longitudinal folds, said tongue or marginal part being provided with a slot.

A combined letter sheet and envelope formed from a substantially rectangular shaped flat sheet of paper, folded twice longitudinally, one of said longitudinal folds being located near the edge of the Paper and the other of said longitudinal folds being substantially at the center of the remaining part of the paper then twice transversely, one of said transverse folds being near the end of the sheet to form a tongue or marginal part adapted to be inserted between adjacent surfaces formed by one of the longitudinal folds, said tongue or marginal part being provided with a slot. o
