Be it known that I, HE'NR J. PAULsnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los'A'ngeles, State of California,have invented alnew and useful Bottle-Filling Apparatus, oi whichthe following is aspecific'ation. 7 My invention relates to bottle filling apparatus being more-particularlyof the type known as vacuum apparatus for filling bottles with'various forms of liquids.

The apparatus operates in the following manner: V
The exhauster is operated by the motor for the purpose of exhausting the air in the tank 15, thejvacuum obtained in such tank being indicated upon the gage WVhen it is desired to use the apparatus for filling bottles the jar '25 is arranged in place as producing a vacuum in the pipe or hose 63 which draws the liquid from thecontainer 55 into the bottle 57. When the bottle 57 is filled it is removed from the washer 58 thereby breaking the vacuum causing the ball 69 to be seated, which operation of the ball prevents the liquid in the hose 63 from running back into the container, such action serving a material purpose in the filling oporation as when the next bottle is filled it is not necessary to draw the liquid from the container up to the filling head.
Further advantage of the arrangement of the pipe 54 is that it extends laterally from the head to the hose 63, at no-point being higher than the head. In the event that the bottles are held too long against the filling head liquid will be drawn through the pipe 40 into the glass jar25, such jar serving as an indicator of such operation and providing a Warning so that the drawing over ,of liquid into the main tank ,or reservoir may be avoided. -It is understood that any liquid accumulating in the jar may be re moved readily by unfastening the bail from the plate 18. v a
The pipe 40 may be made of flexible hose as will readily occur to anyone skilled in the art and the filling head manipulated by hand thus allowing the bottles to be filled to be placed upon a table or other support.
What I claim is z o f l. A filling apparatus comprising afilling head having a chamber formed therein, a cushion on the bottom of said head arranged to receive the mouth of a bottle, said cushion having an opening therein, said bottom of the filling head having an opening therein corresponding with the opening in the cushion, a liquid conductor extending'through the side wall of said head into said chamber consisting of a single pipe, a nozzle formed on the inner end of said conductor consisting of an extension on said pipe at right angles thereto extending downwardly through the opening in the bottom of said head and the. opening in said cushion, said nozzle having longitudinally extending grooves formed in the outer face of said nozzle forming air, passages between said chamber and the bottle to be filled, a check valve in said liquid conductor an air conductor connected to said head in open communication with the chamber in said head, and means for exhausting the air in said chamber through said air conductor; 7,

A filling apparatus comprising a filling head having a chamber formed therein, a pipe for liquids extending through the side of said head into said chamber, the inner end of said pipe extending downwardly throughthe bottom of said head forming-a single nozzle, said nozzle-having passages formed in its'outer face affording open communication from said chamber to the ex terior thereof, a check valve in said liquid conductor arranged' adjacent to the head,

A filling apparatus comprising a head plate, a filling head having a chamber therein supported onv said head plate, a liquid pipe extending through the side of said head into said chamber, a, nozzle formed by extending the inner end of said pipe clownwardly through the bottom of saidhead, said nozzle having grooves formed. in the outer face. thereof forming open communication between said chamber and the exterior of said head, an air conductor attached at one end to said headin open communication with the chamber in said head, ajarssupported on said plate havingthe other end of said air conductor in communication with the interior of the jar, a tank, and air connections between said tank and said jar.

A filling apparatus comprising a head plate having a slot formed therein, a filling head having a chamber formed therein, a hollow stem on said filling head extending iio through the slot in the head plate, a flange on said stem arranged to engage said plate and support the filling head thereon, ana'ir conductor connected to said stem, a liquid conductor extending into said chamber through the sideof said head, and a nozzle on the'inner end of said liquid conductor formed by extending the-end of said con- ,ductor downwardly through the bottom of said head, said nozzle having slots in the outer face thereof forming passages from said chamber to the exterior of said head.

A filling head for bottle filling apparatus comprising'a head having a chamber formed therein, a hollow stem on said head forming an air passage in open communicaing through the side wall of said head into tion with said chamber, and a pipe extendsaid chamber, the inner end of said pipe extending downwardly through the bottom of said head, said downwardly extending end having grooves formed in the outer face thereof forming air passages to said chamber.

A filling head for bottle filling apparatus comprising a head having a chamber formed therein, a hollow stem on. said head forming an air passage in openlcommunication with said chamber, and a pipe extending through the side wall of said head into said chamber, the inner end of said pipe extending downwardly through the bottom of said head, said inner end havinggrooves formed in the outer face thereof forming air passages to said chamber, 'a' checkvalve in said pipe exterior of said head and a liquid conducting tube connected to the outer end of said pipe.
