CMTRIDGE-FEEDING DEVICE.
To all whom t mag'co'ncern:
Be it known that I, HEINRICH 4 Biberach, Germany,- 5 new and useful Improvements in Cartridge- Feeding Devices, (for which I have filed application in Germany onApril 1,.1913,) of which .the following is a specification.
The present invention refers to a novel cartrid e feed for machine and automatic guns o? all descriptionswhich'diifers from the feeding devices hitherto employed' by the simple and yet especially effective manner of feeding the cartridges into the barrel. l5 This is effected according to the present invention by means of a conveyor spiral formed substantially like a coil spring and consisting of wire, sheet metal strips or the like and rotatively disposed within a suitable channel or groove.
This conveyor spiral may be caused to rotate either by the recoiling breech-piece or by gas pressure lo r by a spring or else c y'the semi-cylindrical receptacle near its botby some suitable motive force and, if desired, even by hand, isuitable intermediate members serving to transmit the movement.
In the drawings affixed' to this`speciication and forming part thereof, a cartridge feed according to the present invention is' illustrated by way of example.- In the drawingsd Fig. l is a longitudinal section, showing. the novel cartridge feed combined with a cartridge receptaclev of peculiar form. -Fig 2 is a plan view. Referring -to the drawings, d. is the conveyor spiral lwhich; is -formed in the present instance oa piece of ,wire 'wound after vthe mariiner lcfg-a*Y coil .'fgpriiig'.;y One end oi'i'thespiralv 'is' rigidly gliixed't'o vthe driving .shaft-c kThe spiral isl f of semi-circular section which'is shown in thedrawingas'being applied'to thefeed opening of somefirearm' a. The channel b is preferably connected)withv i'a frame, Iadapted tolbe applied to` the-'weapon and provided with 'two parallel .for taking up and holding the removable v cartrid e receptacle 'aforesaid vconsists Vorlesungv a citizen of the German Emp1re,res1ding at have invented certain' perff'sctfixationv in the frame. cylindricalcover of the wall does not yex- `f`rotatively vdisposed in. the openv channel b..

side walls distanced apart'for the length of -closed o n all sides and having semicircular the cartridge p'so that the cartridges acciimulated therein vcan to each other.
The bottom of the cartrid e has a broad slot therein and t is fixed between the ledges g aforesaid in such a manner, that thel conveyor spiral projects through it into the receptacle, the side walls of the receptacle extending beyond its bottom in order secure a more AThe semifreely move relatively receptacle tend-.q uite down to the bottom but leaves e receptacle an opening o, allowing the cartridges to be introduced into the receptacle and to escapeA therethrough.
After the .receptaclef'lias been filled with cartridges, the openin o may be closed ,by means of the slide z or' the like, which may be turned upwards whenever cartridges shall be supplied. A pine fixed in the centre 'of tom carries a partition loosely mounted 'thereon and further' a powerful spring fV acting upon that partition and causingv it to press the cartridges p towards the slot.
jects into this slot andV its windings are distanced apart insucha manner as to bey able to receive each one cartridge. 0n the spiral being set rotating, the row of cartridges gripped by the windings` of the spiral will wander in the direction.towards` the feed opening of the firearmand will be lfed into it, one after the other.
The receptacle h shown by way of exi ample lmight of course be replaced Aby some other suitable receptacle such as forinstance a prismatic container provided with a sli-d-v ing bottom and' having the cartridges disrated by vertical partitions. y .y After the last cartridge has left the receptacle, y'this latter fresh 1one.
