Application filed November 29, 1920, Serial No. $27,222.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DOUGLAS VON AR'N HEM, a citizen of the German Republic, and
a resident of Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boots or Shoes Provided with Upper Secwhich-require difierent cleaning or polish-" in treatment, can be dealtwith vwlthout detriment to each other.
V In the accompanying drawing in which the invention is illustrated byway of example,
Fig. 1 represents a View .of a boot made according to the invention, while Figs. 2 to 6 are sectional views, showing various methodsof putting the invention into practlce.
The portions a and of the boot or shoe according to Fig. 1 are made of different material and color. For instance the portion a may be made of ordinary leather which requires the usual polishing, and the portion' 6 may be made of cloth. To enable the portion a to be polished without detriment to the portion 1), a strip or fillet c is run along the junction between said two portions, so as to prevent the polish from spreading from one portionto the other. strip. or fillet may be made separately, preferably out of: patent leather, so as to be, itself unaffected by the polish and this strip or fillet may either overlapthe adjacent sections ofthe so as to protect-onesection from boot material as shown in Fig. 3 or bear- I ranged contiguous therewith as shown in Specification Letters Patent. Patented Apr. 18, 1922- V Fig. 4. The overlapping protectingstrip in' r Fig. 2 is formed with a raised edge d at the side where the polish is to be retained. In
Fig. 5 another overlapping strip is beaded so as to form a raised protecting fillet. The 'SlZI'lPlIl F 1g. 6 is connected like a fiap', so'
that it can be turned up, as'shown. in dotted lines, while the polish is applied tothe lower section. l f j J p The raised strip or fillet also serves as a guide forthe polishing implement and prevents the" latter from" coming: into contact with thepart which is to be protected. 7
It is-already known' to provide. boots and narily'made to serve as ornaments andfare not capableiof protecting ad acent sectlo'ns of the boot material from the polish like the" shoes with quilted seams, but these are'ordie protecting strip according to the presentin ve'ntion.. A 7
Having thus particularly described the nature of my invention, what I claim as new 7 and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the 4 United States is: p
In boots or shoes having sections of differently colored leather or of leather and other material, the arrangement of a tecting strip orr raised fillet, said strip or profillet being provided between said sections, i
applied to another section.
