UNITED. STATES A E f ARTHUR. WAYNE CLARK, OF NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY, .ASSIGrNOR T0. JO HNSQN & JOHNSON, OF NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY, 'A CORPORATION OF NEW J'ERSEY.
FUMIGATOR.
Application filed June 24,
'tilizedunder the application of heat.
The improved structure comprises a substantially self contained unit which embodies a stand or support, a heater, and a container for disinfecting material. The stand has openings to maintain combustion and to properly direct the flame or heat about the container. The latter is equipped with *a flange whereby it is supported uponthe upper end of the stand, the flange, serving as a shield or deflector, to prevent theflame oi the heater from igniting the vapor issue ing from the container outlet.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is an elevation, partly in section, showing the fumigator assembled.
2 is a detail ofthe container, the body and cap being separated.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the stand or support.
The improved fumigator. comprises a generally cylindrical stand or support 1' having a bottom and open at the top. I 'The stand is provided near the bottom with a series of air intake openings 3, and nearits top,
with openings i. A heating means 5, here ticular detail, so long assufficient heat is 7 generated within the support. r V The container is in the form of a can body Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr. 18, 192 2.
1920. Serial No. 391,293.
6, filled with, for example, paraformalde hyde, and having a tight fittingcover 7, with a funnel-like vapor. outlet 8. The cover has a lateral flange 9 formed with an annular depending rib 10.
The container is applied to the stand with the flange 9 restingupon the upper edge thereof, the rib; 10 acting as a distance ele-" ment." Bythis means the container isspaced from the support-so thatthe flame or hot products from the heater 5 may directly l reach a comparatively large surface of the 1 container and more effectively and quickly volatilize.theicontents thereof; The openingst in the support'provide for the escape" of'the products of-combustion, andit fre i quently happens that flame from the heater will reach through these openings. It is of' importancethat this flame be prevented from.
igniting thevaporissuing from theoutlet 8,
audit is .i'orthe'i deflection ofsuch flame from the vapor. that the flange 9-.is provided.
Thisflange projects beyond the support'to an'e'xtent providing forits effective service as a complete barrier to the flame, and hence material.
Havmg all possibility;of igniting the disinfecting described my invention,I claim *A iumigator including a support having openings near the upper'and lower edges thereof, acontainer adapted to be arranged within the upper end of the support and 7 having a diameter less than that of the sup-1 port, and a cover for saidcontainer having an outlet and adapted to engage the container with sufficient friction to supportthe container from the cap, said cap havinga rib formation at the lower end thereof of an exterior dimension'corresponding tothe interior diameter of the support, whereby said rib serves to center the container within and spaced from the wall of the support to expose the full surface of such container.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
; ARTHUR WAYNE CLARK, i
