  • This invention relates to motor supporting boards for phonographs, the object thereof being the provision of an improved motor supporting board, which may be readily raised and lowered to permit inspection of the motor carried thereby at the under side thereof, and one object of the invention is the provision of a metalmotor board which can be readily supported for swinging movement and for quick detachment in a phonograph cabinet, particularly of the form shown and described in my contemporaneously pending application for metal honograph structure, Serial No. 371,711, filed April 6, 1920, and which will be 7 simple in construction, inexpensive to make and very efficient in use.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 8, 1920. Serial No. 372,316.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, LOUIS JAY GnRsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Palisades, in the county of Rockland and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Motor- Supporting Boards, of which the following is'a specification.
This invention relates to motor supporting boards for phonographs, the object thereof being the provision of an improved motor supporting board, which may be readily raised and lowered to permit inspection of the motor carried thereby at the under side thereof, and one object of the invention is the provision of a metalmotor board which can be readily supported for swinging movement and for quick detachment in a phonograph cabinet, particularly of the form shown and described in my contemporaneously pending application for metal honograph structure, Serial No. 371,711, filed April 6, 1920, and which will be 7 simple in construction, inexpensive to make and very efficient in use.
In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, Fig. 1 is a top view of a phonograph structure substantially similar to that shown in my said contemporaneously pending application; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the upper portion of said cabinet; Fig. '3. is a perspective view partly broken away of the motor board supporting frame; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of this improved motor supporting board; Fig. 5 is a detail sectional View of one catch or fastening means which may be used to secure the motor supporting board in place; and Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail sectional view of one corner of the motor supporting board shown in imilar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings. 7
The cabinet shown herein is of metal form, and is similar to that shown and described in my contemporaneously pending application, and therefore a detailed description thereof is not deemed necessary in this case. In brief, it consists of metal corner posts and side panels, all connected to ether by concealed fastenings.

Thismoulding is provided with an inwardly extending flange 4, upon which rests the motor supporting frame 5, which is likewise similar to that shown and described in my said pending appllcation, and to which motor supporting frame 5 the tone arm 6 and the metal horn 7 are secured in the manner shown. This motor supporting frame 5 is suitablycut out as at 8, to provide'an opening for the reception of the motor supporting board, and the edges of the frame around the opening are provided with downwardly turned flanges 9, the two side edges being provided with oppositely projecting pins 10. The front side of the jmotor supporting frame 5 is also provided with a pair of pins 11 forming stops'to limit the downward movement of the motor supporting board. i I
At each side of the supporting frame is located a suitable fastening 12 shown as a spring catch having a projecting bolt 13.

This motor supporting board like the motor supportin frame is shown formed of metal and it li ewise is provided with downwardly flanged edges 16, the front flanged edge having suitable notches 17 to receive the pins '11 while the two side flanged edges are provided with apair of diagonal slots 18 terminating in enlarged openings 19 for the reception of the pivot pins 10 of the motor supporting frame. The motor supporting board has secured-thereto at its under side the usual motor 20, the spindle of which projects through the central opening 21 of the motor supporting board and carries the revolving disk or table.
The motor supporting board 15 is readily insertable into the opening 8 of the supporting frame 5 by so inserting the board 15 that the pins 10 will pass into the diagonal slots 18 of the board 15 whereupon the board may be easily swung upon the pivots upward to permit access and inspection and oiling of the motor or the board can be readily lifted together with the motor from the machine when the handle which winds up the motor is first detached.
The various details maybe more or less changed without departing from the spirit or scope of the present improvement.

In a phonograph the combination of a motor supporting frame having a motor board opening provided at opposite sides with a pair of pivot pins, and a motor supporting board having at opposite sidesdiag onal slots adapted to receive said pins, said slots extending to the edge of said board to form open slots, thereby to permit the ready engagement of the pins therein. 7 i
