Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ELI CHAMNESS, OF GREENSBURG, AND JOHN VAUGHN, OF CHESTERFIELD, ASSIGNOBS TO THEMSELVES AND JOHN RAYMOND, OF GREENSBURG,
INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN POLISH FOR STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,321, dated July 29, 1873; application filed September 2, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ELI CHAMNESS, of Greensburg, in the county of Decatur and in the State of Indiana, and JOHN VAUGHN, of
Chesterfield, in the county of Madison and in the State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Polish for Blacking and Polishing Stoves and other articles made of iron, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of our invention is such that it will make stoves and other articles made of iron smoother and brighter when it is applied to them. 1
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention applies to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and. operation and preparation.
We take, first, four (4) pounds of plumbago; to this We add one (1) pound of soap, and one (1) ounce of glycerine. We thoroughly mix these articles, adding sufficient water to make it thin enough to apply to the article to be polished with a brush.
The article must be nearly dry before it is touched; then a few applications of a broom or brush gives a beautiful polish.
We have also used larger and smaller amounts of soap and glycerine with the above amount of plumbago, and find that it gives a good polish, but not as good as the above preparation and proportion.
What we claim as new and our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of plumbago, soap, and glycerine, used substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
- ELI OHAMNESS. JOHN VAUGHN. Witnesses:
