LEVELING DEVICE FOB MOLDERS FLASKS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apt. i3, 1922.
Application flied March 7, 1921. semi no. 450,235.
a neiv and usetul Leveling Device tor hlold- L3 ers`l Flasks, of which the following is a specivtication.
The principal objects ot the present invention are lirst.y to cause four Wedges to engage With approximately the same torce by means of a single operating hand lever; and second, to provide a compact, etiicient and reliable leveling device for molders liasks.
To these and other ends hereinafter set torth the invention, stated in general terms, consists of a leveling device for melders Vflasks comprising a hand-lever-turned pinion and tvvo racks, all mounted for motion ot translation, and tour Wedges having equalizing draft gear connecting them in pairs to the racks, vvhereby the tour Wedges are made to engage the iiask with approximately the same torce by means et a single hand lever.
The invention further comprises the improvements to be presently described and finally claimed.
1n the accompanying drawings torming part hereof is illustrated an embodiment, selected from other embodiments, of the invention, and in those draWings- Figure 1 is a top or plan view with parts broken avvay and parts ren'ioved.
Fig. 2 is a side view with parts broken away, and
Figs 3 and l are transverse sectional views pieces 2, ct tivo cross frame movable endvvise with guides co-operating with the cross pieces 3. This frame 4 constitutes floating or movable center for the pinion 6 which can turn and also partake oit a movement of translation because the trame 4ris movable as has been described. 7 is a hand lever for turning the pinion 6, and it is shown as arranged in an opening in the hub 8 of the pinion 6 Which is tast to it. 9 and 10 are racks meshing with the pinion 6 and moved endvvise in opposite directions by the pinion 6 when it is turned, and these racks as Well as the axis of the pinion are all capable of movements ot transpieces 3. 4- across the bed and provided lation. 11 are tour movable Wedges, shown as provided with' rounded backs 12, and they are slidable on the Wedge pieces 2. These Wedges are connected in pairs by bars 18 which have relativemotion in respect to the wedges to which they are `connected. The bars 13 are connected with the racks S) and 10. ln the embodiment of invention selected for illustration the connection is not direct, but consists o" links 14 pivoted to the bars 13 and to arms 15 of toothed sectors 16 pivoted to the bed 1 and meshing with additional teeth 17 on the racks. 18 are rails aiiorded rising and falling movement in respect to the bed by pins 19, Fig. L1, and carried by the backs 12 ot the Wedges 11. 20 are vertically movable brackets or the like for carrying the leveling device.
In use the leveling device properly positioned for the reception ot halt molds, use being made of the brackets 2O for that purpose. When a haltmold is brought over the leveling device, for example by the swinging trame ot a moldingl machine from which the half mold is suspended, the hand lever 7 is turned and the povver thus applied is eX- erted upon each oi the tour wedges 11 through the described mechanism which tends to draw the Wedges towards the center of the device raising the rails 18 towards and into contact with the bottom ot the halt mold. The power thus exerted is applied to the Wedges with approximately the same force, because it is equalized regardless of the positions ot the Wedges since the pinion and racks are all capable of movement ot translation and since the bars 13 are movable in respect to the nf'edges upon which they operate and are themselves along With the links 14C equalizing draft gear. The sectors 16,`vvhen present, serve as multiplying devices to augment the wedge movements and permit of the use of Wedge angles which Will not slip back under ioad. The rails 18 may be lovvered by a reverse movement ot the hand lever.
It Will be obvious t0 thosevskilled in the art to Which the invention relates that modifications may be made in details ot construction and arrangement Without departing from the spirit oi the invention which is not limited in respect to such matters or Other- Wise than as the prior art and the appended claims may require.
