end portion of the band which passes round the plate, are pressed down upon the doubled en'd2 of the band. 7
Figures 5, dand show how thed'evice i may be made to haven-neat epp'eafance' by being boxed'in at the sides{ The base 3 has slde flaps 15 bent upto' lie .egainst the sides l'io - 16'as in Figures 4: to 6.
as at 21, Figurev 5 to engage in indenta 'tions in the-ends of the nut 14, or the nut may be otherwise held in the box-like form of clip to prevent it from receding when the screw 8 is slackened. r K
Figure 8 shows how the band may be connected to plate 6 by its enlarged end 4. which passes freely througha slot at 17 when the screw is drawn back, but is caught between the edge of the slot andthcwasher 13 on the 'end of screw 8 whenthis latter is tightened. The plate Gmay slidethrough a slot as inFigures 1 to 3,01 under nibs Figures 9 and 10 illustrate a modification 'wherein the plate 6 has its downwardly turned end engaged by a projecting pinat 18 on the end of screw 8, while the band is connected to plate 6 by being carried along the'top thereof and looped through a slot at .19; It will be seen from the plan view, Figure 10, that in this case the nibs 16 on the side plates 15 are wide enough'apart to he ever the sides of plates 6 while the band passesover the middle portion clear of these nibs. This construction is in many respects the most satisfactory in practice as the pull of" the end of the band over the plates 6 is'well balanced and does not tend to distort it appreciably asthe screw 8 is tightened up. The end 2 of the band, hooked into the slot in the base plate 3 is the detachable end inthis ease, the other .end being fastened permanently to plate 6 when the band is applied. r l
Flgure 11 shows a construction similar to that of Fi ure 8, butqwith the sliding, plate inverted. lt slides through a slot in lug. 7 near the bottom thereof, and the end at of the band is gripped between a washer or plate 13011 screw 8, and the edge ofthe slot at vl7 in the end of plate 6. The head 01. the screw 8 may have a hole therein, and the rear end of the sliding plate '6 may also have a hole as in Figure 11, so that when the band is tightened up, the screw can be locked by passing and sealing a wire 22 through these two holes. 1
I Having thus describedmy invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is isaid base plate, a sliding plate member having a bent up face against which said screw v bears,-'said sliding plate member being passed through and adapted to be guided by a slot in the lug on said base plate, a band, means for engaging one end of said band with the base plate, and means for engaging the other end of said band with said sliding plate member.
'2. A band-clip devicepomprising a base plate having a lug and aunt carried thereb 1 a screw assin throu h said nut in a g e direction substantially parallel with the face of said base plate, a sliding plate member 3 having a-bent up face against which said i screw bears,'said sliding plate memberbeing passed through and adapted to be guided y a slot inthe lug on said base plate, a
band, means for engaging one end of said band with the base plate, and a gripping member adapted to be tightened against the bent up face'of said sliding plate member by the tightening of said screw, and adapted T sliding plate with'abent end, means ror .to'grip the other end of said hand between said grippmg memberiand the face of said guiding said sliding plate in the projecting:
end of said base plate, a band member adapted to be passed through an aperture in said base pl'ateiand to have its one 'end doubled over while its other end is engaged with an aperture insaid sliding plate, said screw being disposed in such manneras to exert pressure on the bent end of said sliding plate and to force it longitudinally over the doubled-over end ofsaid band member while drawing out the otherend of said band member which is engaged with said-sliding plate.- 1 i 'i l '1 CHARLES LLOPDELL,
