Description
S. 8. FULLER.
Dies fr Mieming Shoe-Soles.
N0. ZHZ@ Patented]u|y29,l873.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SYLVESTER B. FULLER, OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DIES FOR MOLDING SHOE-SOLES.
Specilication forming part of'Lettfrs Patent No. 14 1,216, dated July 29, 1573,' application filed May 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SYLVEsTER B. FULLER, of Lynn, of the county of Essex and State ot' Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Dies of Sole-Molding Machines; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specilica tion and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a top view, Fig. 2 a side elevation, and Fig. 3 a longitudinal section, of a pair of sole-molding dies as improved by me, a sole being represented las between them, and projecting beyond them at its heel. Fig. 4 is a top view of the lower die, and Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the upper one.
Heretofore the dies ot' sole-moldin g machines have been made to receive and extend over the entire sole to be molded. In such machines the upper die is usually stationary, and the lower one movable vertically toward and from the other. The lower die having a reciproeating movement, an attendant has to watch his opportunity while the dies are apart to place between them or remove from them a sole. Unless he is extremely careful, he may get his fingers caught by and crushed between the dies-an accident of recent occurrence, and which by no means is uncommon.
To prevent all danger of such an accident is the object of my invention, which consists in a sole moldor dies, or the upper one truncated at the heel, so as to allow a portion ot' the heel of the sole to project beyond them when the sole is in place between them.
With dies so made, an attendant can lay hold of the sole at the heel part, and either insert it between or withdraw it from the dies while the lower one may be in motion, and this without any danger of his hand being caught between the dies.
It is by no means necessary to mold the sole at the heel, it being preferable to have it dat there; the instep and rest ot' the sole being all that need be molded.
In the drawings, A denotes the upper, and B the lower, die, and C the sole between and projecting beyond them, the heels of the dies being truncated, as shown at a b, with reference to the sole.
I claim as my invention- The sole mold or dies, or upper one truncated at the heel, so that the sole, while being molded, may project at its heel out of and beyond the upper or both dies, substantially in manner and for the purpose set forth.
SYLVESTER B. FULLER. Witnesses:
R. H. EDDY, J. R. SNOW.
