(GRANTED UNDER THE PRovIsI'oNs or THE ACT `or M ARcH s, 19,21, 41 sur. i., i313.) Y l Be it known that I, ROBERT PLooH, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at Dresden, Germany,have invented new and useful Improvements in Holding Devices, of which the following is a specification.
' Thisinvention relates to frames for holding textile or other material in position while being embroidered, darned, mended. painted or otherwise worked, and has yfor its object to provide an improved construction of frame of this character. v
The invention more particularly relates to a frame of the type comprisinga resilient and automatically adjustable inner ring which is of such form as to extend around the greater portion of an outer ring into which it is sprung outwards so as to engage firmly with the inner circumference ofthe outer ring. The resilient inner ring is preferably arranged to be removed and replaced by means of a pair of scissor handles arranged at an angle to the plane of the rings, and the principal object of the present invention is to provide means for removably and adjustably securing a frame of the above or yother suitable type to a table or bench for the purpose of facilitating thel work.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawingsof which Figure 1 is a plan view of a preferred embodiment of the invention, Figures 2 and 3 being' views in side elevation illustrating the device in different position to which it may be adjusted.
Referring now to the drawings, the resilient inner ring is indicated at 1 as provided with scissor handles 2, and after the material to be worked has been placed over the ring 1 the latter is reduced in circumference by exerting pressure on the handles 2 and is then with the material inserted within the outer ring 3,'the handles 2 being subsequently released so as to permit Athe ring 1 to expand and firmly grip the ma-V terial between the rings 1 and 3; The outer ring 3 is'provided with two projecting arms or lugs 4 rigidly secured thereto and eachv provided with a longitudinal slot 5 parallel to the plane of the rings and 'having an opening in one side thereof adjacent to the ring Y3 as clearly shown in Figure 3. What I claim is,:- An lembroidery framecomprising a rigid outer ring, an inner expansiblejring, lugs on arms of said clamp eo--aoting with the pins' to maintain the rings in horizontal position, and stops on said lugs on the side opposite to that having the opening to the slots, said stops being adapted to engage the upper arms of the clamp to hold the rings in an indined position.
