Application filed November 13, 195w,
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that It. GiLnnRoY O. BUnnnw, a citizen of the United States, residing in Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey. have invented certain new and useful improvements in Dentifricial Tablets, of which the following is a speci fication.
The object of this invention is to provide a dentifrice or tooth cleaning preparation in a novel and highly eiiicient tabloid form. adapted to be inserted between the rows of bristle tufts or" a tooth brush, the tabloid or wafer becoming slowly dissolved upon being subjected to liquids and gentle trituration.
Dentifrices in the form of creams or pastes, contained in collapsible tubes, often harden in their containers, causing the tubes to burst in the effort of expelling their con 1 tents, a total loss of the same ensuing.
Even when the contents are properly extruded the roll or strip frequently falls of? the brush wasting the same.
Powders are inherently Inussy and wasteful in their application, and liquids obviously cannot contain certain substances deemed desirable for such purposes.
The object then of this invention is to provide a dentifrice in a form which can he conveniently used without waste, is not subject to deterioration by lapse of time in proper storage. can be compactly packaged and may be composed of any preferred combination of substances.
' These objects and purposes are attained by the novel design and construction of wafers or tabloids as hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a component part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is perspective view of a. wafer made in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan View of a conventional tooth brush illustrating the application of the wafer.
same.
Specification of Letters retest.
Figure 3 is a side elevational viewof the Patented filpro d,
Serial No. easy/e.
numeral designates the handle or a common type of tooth brush, the same being provide 4. with an opening 11 by which the brush may be suspended, thehandle being; usually formed integrai with the backing 12 in which are set the rows of bristle tufts l3 constituting the brush.
The wafer or tabloid 15 may be made of any preferred ingredient-s adapted for the purpose of cleansing and polishing the teeth, inciuding mild abrasives, antiseptics and medicaments having curative properties to meet diseased conditions or the gums and flavored as desired.
The plastic mass is rolled and stamped or pressed direct into the form shown, which as indicated, is that of a relatively thin fiat substantialiy rectangular slab, having rounded corners in and adapted to be inserted longitudinally between any adjacent rows oi the bristle tufts where it is retained by frictional contact.
In usethe brush is moistened by dipping into water or other convenient means, the water, which is limitedly pliable, is entered from the outer end of the brush between any of the tuft rows and the brush used in ordinary manner, preferably by a rolling vertical motion with reference to the teeth.
As the wafer absorbs the moisture and is brought into frictionai contact with the teeth, it slowly dissolves, liberatin the particles or its composition, which obviously are directly and positively applied whcre'required without loss or waste;
From the foregoing it will be seen that a new article of manufacture has been disclosed, convenient and economical in use readily portable and not easily subject to deterioration.
It is to be understood however that minor changes may be made from the exact shape shown and that any ingredients preferred may be used in its composition without affecting thescope and spirit of the invention as hereafter claimed. Y
I claim: v V
