Be it known that I, WILLIS H. Gener, a citizen ot the United States7 residing at Detroit, in the county of 1Wayne and vState ot Michigan, have linvented a new and useful Blacking Stand, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter ol this application is a blacking stand, and the object o't the invention is to provide novel means :tor mounting the toot rest and tor holding the flexible polishing strip in operative relation to t-he foot rest.
In the accompanying drawings z- Figure l is a top plan wherein the lid has been swung backwardly to an open `position; Figure 2 is a section on the line 9F-Q of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a fragment-al section taken on the line 3-3 ot Figure 1.
The cabinet comprises side walls The back o't' the cabinet is denoted by the numeral 1l. A. platform 16 is provideda the side edges of which carry depending cleats 19 united by securing elements 2O to the sides 5. Strips 27 are secured to the side walls 5, above the platform 16. rllhere are notches or seats 28 in the upper edges ot the strips 27. A t'ront piece 29 tits between the sides 5 and is located above the platform 16, the front piece abutting against the 'forward ends oit the strips 27 as shown in Figure 1. A back piece 30 tits between the sides 5 and is located above the platform 16, the back piece abutting against the rear ends ot the strips 27. The front piece 29 and the back piece 30 are secured to the strips 27 by hinges 31. The parts ot' the hinges have no relative movement, t-he hinges having vthe 'tune-tion of angle brackets or connections, uniting the parts 29 and 30 with the members 27'.
The ends of guide bars 32 are mounted in the notches 28 oit the strips 27 and are held in place by securing elements 33, passing inwardly through the upper portions ot the sides 5 and engaging the ends of the guide bars. The numeral 3d denotes a foot rest supported on the guide bars 32 and provided with a rib 35 received slidably between the guide bars. The 'foot rest 34 is supplied with a heel recess 36 and with a heel stop 37.
The top of the cabinet is closed by u vertically swinging lid d6 connected to the back piece 30 by hinges 47.
lVhen it is desired to use the cabinet 'tor blaclzing purposes, the lid ,t6 is swung backwardly into open position. The foot rest 34, when not in use, mayl be supported on the platform 16, to the end that the lid 6 may be closed. `When it is desired to use the toot rest, the rib 35 on the foot rest is mounted between the guide bars The foot` rest may be adjusted longitudinally of the guide bars 32 as occasion may demand, so that when the `liexible polishing strip Ll() is reciprocated on the rollers 39, theostri p will coaot with the desired part oi the shoe.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A blacking device including a cabinet; guides extended across the cabinet; a 'toot rest supported on the guides and comprising a rib received between the guides, the 'toot rest being movable longitudinally of the guides; and directing elements tor a liexible member, located on opposite sides oit the guides.
2. A blacling device comprising a cabinet including sidewalls; strips mounted on the side walls and having notches; a gi'lide received in the notches; a toot rest carried by the guide; front and rear members located between the side walls and abutting against the strips; means for securing said members to the strips; platform supporting said members; and guiding moans tor a flexible element, carried by the platform and located on opposite sides ot the guide.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aiiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIS H. COLE Y.
