CORK FOR THERMOS BOTTLES.

` JOHN DnfmcKNY/ER', or LONG ISLAND crry, NEW ronx.
' n Y coax FOR THERMOS BOTTLES.
mms3.
Tow-all 'whom t Amay concern.' l
Be it known that l, JOHN DE LACKNER, a .-citizenoffthe United States, residing at Long IslandCity, in the county of :Queens and State of `New York, have inventeda certain new andv usefulImprovement. in Corks for, Thermos Bottles, of which thc following vis a Yspeciication.
My invention .relates to vthat class of containers which are ,popularly known as 'thermos bottles.' These bottles,'which are designed to maintain the temperature ofthe liquid contained therein are generally 4provided with vvery long tightly fitting .coi-ks in Yorder to `assist the insulation in maintaining the temperature.l ,It is very inconvenient tol have 'to v'remove thefcork every time `rit is :desired to use the bottle in order to .gain access to the'liquid therein.
` My` invention has for its obj ect to provide a'nfalucet which can be mountedfinthe cork and. which will enablet'he user to secure the liquid contained in the container without the necessity of removing the cork at' all. The ordinary aucetis 'of novalue for this purpose inasmuch as no provision is made for the entrance of'air to take the space occupied by the discharged liquid. In my improvement ample provision is made for the entrance ot the air so as to insure a full and continuous flow of liquid.
My means of accomplishing these objects may be more readily understood by having reference to the accompanying drawings which are hereto annexed and are a part ofthis speciiication in Ywhich as shown in the drawings: y f y Fig. 1 is a fragmentary view of a thermos a bottle equipped withjmy improvement;
`Fig. 2 is a detail view; Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are detail views of parts of the device.
Similar reference numerals referto similar parts throughout the entire description. As shown in the drawing the bottle, 1, is
)rovided with a cork, 2, in the usual manner.V
his cork is. provided with longitudinally extending opening or passage, 3, in which is mounted a cylinder 4, whichA is provided with a plurality of external threads, 5, cut upon its end, 6. A circumferential flange, 7, is formed on the cylinder and is adapted to and does abut the outer end, 8, of the cork. "A nut, 9, having an opening, 10,
therethrough, which is provided withv Speci'cationof Letters Patent. Patented API.. 4 1922 f y v Application filed December 16, 1921.V Serial No. 522,820.
l threads, 11', which are Afitted toiand coinfy cide with the threads', 5,cut upon the ends,
6, of the"cylindricaljsleeve, 4, serves to draw the' flange,4 tightly against the; face, S, ofthe cork, 2, thus preventing leakage .of tlievliquid.V Lugs, 12 and 13, are provided on the nut, 9, for convenient manual manipulation. Thefgouterrend, 24. of the cylinder 4, is provided with fan opening. 14, 1 n its lower vwalland anL air vent or opening, 15, in its top wall. The outer surface of the end, 24 ofthe cylinder, is ground yand slightlyxtapered to fit .the taper ofA a sleeve,y 16, which Lis rotatably mounted thereon. VThe cylindrical sleeve, 16 is provided ,with two .outwardly extending lugs,
17 and .18, through whicliextend portsor passages; 1 9 and 2O .whichfare adapted rto register withthe openings 14 and`15,'in
the 'end 24, of the cylinder, 4. I The cylin drical sleeve, 16, is heldon the-tapered'. end,
24, sol as to yforma .tight `joint bymeansy 'u' i of 'aknurled 'nut Vorpin any other suitable n orconvenient manner, a coil spring231 be- .ingprovided lto keep the joint tight.
sok
When it is desired'to obtain liquidy l:from the inside of the bottle, 1, it is tilted up and Y the cylindrical sleeve, 16 is turned until the lug, V18, is in register with the opening, 14, when as is obvious the liquid will flow out into a cup or other desired receptacle. This flow, however, would be more'or less intermittent due to the liquid being airbound unless a proper air vent is provided. It
-will bev apparent that. the operation of bringing the port or passage, 19 ,formed in the lug 18, in register with the opening, 14, serves at the same time to bring the port or passage, 20, formedk in the lug, 17, in register with the opening, 15, through which the air may enter into the interior of the Wardlyrextendi'ng lugs `on said sleeve'having passages therein vadapted to register withV parent that any of the numerous devices ern-- Vployed for this purpose may be utilized Without departing from my invention,
Having described my invention what I regard as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentis: y 'l l. The Combination with a bottle' having a-eork there being a longitudinal opening through said Cork of a cylinder mounted 1n said opening,a radially extending VVcircular flange 'on' said veylinder Vwhich abuts one end of the cork, threads Veut ,on'the' other end of said cylinder, a nut mounted thereon' which abuts the innerend of the cork, a rotatable sleeve mounted on the outer end of said cylinder, having opposite disposed openings therein, there being oppositelydisposed-openings in the cylinder to reglster f therewithVr and means to prevent the eomplete rotation of said sleeve.
2.y The combination with a bottle having afeorln there being a longitudinal opening 'through said cork, of aeylinder mounted in said opening, a radially extending circular flange on said cylinder which abuts v one end: of Vthe cork, threads out on the; other end of said cylinder, anut mounted thereon which vabutsthe inner end of the Cork, a
cal sleeve. 1
rotatable sleeve'mounted Von the outer end of said'eyhder', oppositely disposed outopenlng in the cylinder and means to preA vent the complete rotationr of said eylndri- Langes 3.v The eombinationwithja bottle having aeorlz, there being a longitudinal openingl through said Vveorkypo'f a vcylinder mounted in said opening, a laterally extending radial flange on said cylinder which abuts one end fof said cork, threads eut on thek other end' of said cylinder, a nut thereon which abuts the Cork,V the outer end of saidcylinder be-` ing slightly tapered and ground, there being oppositely disposed openings. in the tapered Vportion of said Cylinder, rotatable means mounted on theftapered portionYofljy vin said opening, a laterally 'extending radial flange on sa'id'cylinderivhieh abu'ts'oneend of said cork, threads eut on the'other end of'said cylinder,- a nut thereon which abuts the cork, the Outer end'of said eylinderbe-y ing slightly Vtapered and round, l there be-V i ing oppositely disposedv openings inf'the tapered'portion of said cylinder, vrotatable means mounted on the tapered portion f" of indem the operation serving to'ladmit an' through the other, and meansjtoholdsaid eylndrieal sleeve on said tapered portion.V
.the cylinder' to open one opening inthe feyl f 1 In'testimony whereof, I have signedi'ithe lforegoing specification.V v
