To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT J. CU'rsHALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mechanicsburg, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar Alarms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make. and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in burglar alarms and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character which may be associated with a door or the like and is adapted to complete an electric circuit to an alarm when the weight of a person is thereon. k
Another object of this invention is the provision of a casing adapted to be embedded in the ground or hidden from view and having a circuit closer therein and adapted to be actuated under the weight ofa person.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a burglar alarm of the above stated character which shall be simple, durable and efficient and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view'as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully diesc'ribed and claimed.
For a complete understanding of m invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a building illustrating the burglar alarm constructed illustrating the circuit closer.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a building having a doorway 2 that is closed by a door 3. The foregoing description relates to a well known in the county of Sangamon '4 by suitable fasteners.

A rectangular casing 4 is embedded in the ground 5 in front of the door 3 as clearly illustrated in Figure 1 and is closed by a cover 6 constructed from any water-proof fabric. The fabric is secured to the casing The casing 4 is embedded in the-ground 5 and a thin layer of earth or the like is placed over the cover 6 so as to hide the same from view.
A rectangular member 7 is supported withing the casing 4 by strips 8 and has centrally arranged therein a supporting block 9 carrying a contact 10 which is insulated therefrom in any well known manner. A spring contact 11- is carried by the block 9 and has its free end spaced from the contact 10 and has connected thereto a conductor 12 which is connected to one pole of a switch 13 located within the building 1. The switch 13 has connected to its other pole a conductor 14 which is connected to a battery 15 located in the building. A conductor 16 is connected to the battery 15 and to an alarm 17 and which alarm is connected to the contact 10 by a conductor 18, whereby when the contact 11 moves into engagement with the contact 10 an electric circuit will be completed to the alarm 17 actuating the same providing the switch 13 is in a closed position.
A stationary member 19 is supported by the rectangular member 7 and has extendin therethrough a plurality of bolts .20 which are carried by a movable member 21. The movable member 21 is supported in spaced relation to the stationary member 19 by means of coil springs 22 mounted upon the bolts 20 and interposed between the members 19 and 21. A pin 23 is carried by the movable member 21 and extends through an aperture 24 in the stationary member 19 and is adapted to move the contact 11 in engagement with the contact 10 upon movement of the movable member 21 in the direction of the stationary member 19. The movable member 21 has mounted thereon a metallic covering 24 which has its edges bent downwardly to form flanges 25 that extend in the direction of the stationary member 19 to form a protection to the springs 22.
' In operation, the device is located in front ofthe door of a building and embedded so as to be hidden from view and upon a person stepping upon the same, the'movable memher 21 will be moved downwardly causing the pin 23 to move the contact 11 in engagement with the contact 10 completing an electric circuit to the alarm 17. When it is not desired to use the device the switch 13 may be opened breaking the circuit to the alarm 17. A- plurality of rods 26 are carried by the rectangular member 7 and have their upper ends bent to overlie the movable member 21 so as to limit the upward movement of said member.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
