Be it known that I, GEORGE GEBHARDT, Jr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nashville, in the countyof Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Counter Blocks for Embossing Presses, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to improvements in embossing presses and more particularly to an improvement inthe construction of the counter block and counter which supports the male die.

The usual practice in making ready for the operation of an embossing press is to prepare the female die in the usual manner and then, after preparing the counter or male die, to secure the counter by glue or other similar means to the face of the counter block or counter block slide. Then after the required number of impressions have been made the female die is preserved for future .use in the event a reprint is required, but the male die is destroyed at the time it is removed from the face of the counter block or counter block slide. As the preparation of the male die or counter requires considerable time and labor, a corresponding amount of'time and labor must be lost in the event a reprint is ordered. It is, therefore, the primary object of the present invention to provide means whereby the male counter or die may be mounted upon the counter block or counter block slide in a manner to permit of its removal therefrom without destruction or mutilation and so that it may be preserved in the same manner as the female die,

for future use. In this manner the expense which would otherwise be involved through the'labor of an embossing pressman in 're preparing the male die, as well as the time lost while the embossing press remains idle, is saved.

It will be understood that instead of the strips 15, any-other suitable means may be posed against the face of the counter bloc-k slide, and means removably securing the sheet in place.

2. In a device of the class described, in

combination, a male c ounter comprising a sheet of cardboard or its equivalent and a die portion built up upon the face thereof, a counter block slide against the face of which the said sheet is disposed, and means carried by the said slide removably retaining the said 'counter sheet.
