Be it knovvn that I, ROBERT I-IoMoLLn, -a citizen of the Republic of .F rance, and resident of Paris, 2O Rue Guyot., F rance, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Protective Casings for Safes, (for` Which I have filed an application in France,
on February 20, 1919, Patent No. 496,030
of Which the following is a specilication. K
This invention has for its object to provide a safe of any t-ype with a. protective casing, made of smoke producingmaterials, the construction of the casing being such that it can be applied not only to safes but also to strong-doors and even to the Walls of strongrooms of banks.
The accompanying drawing illustrates, by Way of example, how the protective casing or shield is to be applied to a safe.
Since this smoke cannot be concealed it not only constitutes an excellent means for attracting the attention of the attendants, but
also, because of its density and asphyxiating property, it tends to prevent the safe-blower from continuing his Work and compels him to leave the spot Where he was Working.
It is to be understood that the device may of course be composed of any appropriate smoke producing materials, in particular when the latter contain coal and hydrocarbon.
I cla-im as my invention A protective casing for safes, strong-doors and the like, comprising an outer metal case,
and a Wall or layer of material for producing` a dense smoke arranged directly aga-inst the inner surface of said case, so that when the latter is penetrated by the flame of a blow pipe, such flame Will immediately ignite said material, and the smoke generated thereby Will escape through the hole cut by the blow pipe and form a thick smoke screen which Will obscure the portion of thesafe on Which the safe-blower is operating and thus prevent him from continuing` his Work, and
which Will also serve to Warn the attendants.`
