Description
(No Modef) G. J. ORIKELAIR.
I FIRE ALARM.
No. 317,931. Patented MaJy. 12, .1885,
UNITED STATES PATENT @rrrce.
GUSTAVE J. ORIKELAIR, OF NEW V YORK, N. Y.
FIRE-ALARM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,931, dated May 12., 1885.
Application filed April 27, 1883. Renewed September 5, 1884.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAVE J. CRIKELAIR, of the city, county, and State of New York, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Fire-Alarms; and I hereby declare the following to be a full and clear description and specification of my said improvements,
reference being had to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a room with wall in section. Fig. 2 is a view of the outside casing covering the alarm-cannon. Fig. 3 is a View of the cannon with the case removed. Fig. 4. is an end view showing the arrangement of cannon and casing, and Fig. 5 is a section through Fig. 3 on the line m w.
The objectof my invention is to give an alarm in case of fire.
In Fig. 1 the arrangement of my improved apparatus as applied to a room in a house or other building is shown. Near the ceiling on the side wall, or at other convenient place, I
secure a quick-burning fuse, A, extending around the room, or to all parts where any fire will be most likely to come. This fuse at a convenient point is carried through the side wall to the outside of the building and enters the touch-hole of a cannon, B, which should be of suitable size to sound the desired alarm when exploded.
In order to protect the cannon B from rain or dampness, I provide it with a shield or cover, U, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, and in order to still further protect the fuse, the touch-hole is provided with a tube, D, which will extend into the wall, as shown in Fig. 5, and the fuse may be conducted through the tube to the cannon or gun B.
(No model.)
In conjunction with the cannon B, the fuse may be connected with packages of fire-extinguishing compound F, so that the alarm of fire will be given by the cannon and the fire-extinguishing compound be ignited and set in operation by the same fuse.
In cases of isolated buildings, it is of importance to know when a fire first commences to burn, and it is in such cases that my invention will be of most service, although it may be used to advantage in all buildings.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a fire-alarm, the combination of the alarm-gun B and its protecting-cover 0, located on the outside of a building, with the conducting-fuse connected thereto and. passing through the wall into the building, where-- by, in case of a fire within, an alarm may be sounded without the building, all substantially as described.
2. The cannon B, located on the outside of a building and adapted to be fired by a fuse, A, in combination with a fire-extinguishing compound, also connected with said fuse and located inside of the building.
3. In a fire-alarm, the combination of the alarm-gun B and its protecting-cover G, located on the outside of a building, the tube D, rigidly connected thereto and passing into the wall, serving as a protection for the fuse A, together with said fuse, which passes through the tube and within the building, whereby an
