AMUSEIVEENT DEVICE.
Application filed December 19, 1919.
To all] "UT/10H) f may con 0cm lie it known that we. Anoxzo B. Crronrn and Lows #l. Fiona, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at Flt, Pauh in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota; have invented a new and useful Annisement Device oi which the "following a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an aniusen'ienl: device for children which can he used as a coaster" the parts of said device being separable so that it can serve a number of purposes, A further object is to construct said parts so that they are inexpensive and strong: and so that they are easily and quickly attached or detached. the mode oi. attachment and construction being strong and rigid so that the entire device will withstand severe use such as toys and amusement devices are subjected to when in use. More particularly this invention is provided with a knee rest, a handle bar, a foot rest and a bundle carrier, of which all or any number can be used simultaneously at will and can be selectively positioned at different elevations so as to accommodate the device for use by children of different sizes. With these and other objects in view our invention comprises the features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification F 1 is a perspective view of our invention; Fir; 2 is a longitudinal section of a detail taken on the line f22 oi 1; Fig. 3 is a perspective view oi the bundle carrier; Fig. 4- is a per-r spective view of the knee restand Fig. 5 is a section of a detail taken on the line 5-5 oi Fig. 2.
In the drawing let A indicate the base or body of the device which is in the form of a longnarrow plate having the single roller 2 journaled below its forward end and'a pair of antifriction rollers 3 journaled below its back end, all of which are secured to its lower face and upon which the device is adapted to run freely. B indicates the staff which. is substantially vertical although this position is not essential. as it may be arranged slightly inclined to the base if so desired. The lower end of this staff is secured to the base by the brackets 4E and by a tongue and groove connection 5 (see Fig. 5). The staff is mounted back of the forward supporting roller 2 so as to im- Specification of Letters Patent said grooves arranged Patented Mar. 21, 1922 Serial No. Seliifififi.
part greater stability to the device when in use and so that the device will not tip forwardly easily as ii. the forward roller supjlillt were positioned directly below or back of the staff,
Mounted .iunnediately adjoining the lower end of the staff is a horizontal foot support 6 WiJlCl) is in the form' of a bar let into the stall by any one of the horizontal grooves 7 and secured to the staff by the readily detachable bolt 8. Thus the foot rest can be selectively positioned in elevation on the staff in any one of the grooves 7. The LZ'l'OOVQS 7 prevent the foot rest from turn lug on its bolt 8 and cooperate with the boll: in locking the rest firmly on the are;
Arranged above the foot rest is a knee re t (l which resembles a bracket having a horizontally a ranged plate or bar 9 extending; rearwardl a short distance from the staff and above the foot rest, and a downwardly extending" plate 10 which is adapted to rest against the back face of the staff. The two members 9 and 10 are reinforced in strength by the angularly disposed brace 11 which assists in producing a strong and rigid knee rest structure. The plate 10 is provided with a horizontal tongue'22 on its front face which is adapted to fit into any one of the horizontal. grooves 19 in the back face of the stai there beinga plurality of at different eleva tions. The knee rest may be adjusted on the stall at different elevations, as desired, to accommodate the device for use by different sizes oi"- children. The platelO is clamped upon the stat? by means of the" readily delachable bolt 13 the shank of which extends thri'iug'h the vertical slotfl/lin the staff so that the knee rest can be moved withits tongue entering any one of the grooves 12 by loosening the bolt butwithout entirely removing it. The tongue and groove connection between the knee rest and bracket and the broad face bearing produced by the plate 10 against the staff produces a strong and rigid separable connection.
Arranged above the knee rest is a horizontal handle bar D which may be seated in any one of the series of slots 15 in the staff to assist in holding it upon the staff. This handle bar is additionally'fastened upon the staff by the readily removable bolt 16 the shank of which passes through thehandle bar and through a, vertical slot 17 in the stall. Thus by positioning the handle bar in any one of the slots 15 and securing at selective elevation by ineans of the bolt 16, the device can be used more readily by children of different heights, the slot 17 permitting the handle bar when the bolt 1.6 is loosened to be moved into any one of the slots 15' without entirely disconnecting the handle bar from the staff. Obviously the knee rest can be used by a small child as a seat while a larger child simultaneously rides and propels the device.
When desired a bundle carrier E in the form of a receptacle can be secured at selective elevation on the front of the staff, a vertical slot 18 being provided in the back wall 19 of the carrier, through which the same bolt 18 which secures the knee rest on the stall can be passed to simultaneously fasten the bundle carrier in position. The bundle carrier is also provided with a horizontal tongue 20 on the back face of the wall 19, which is adapted to enter any one of the horizontal slots 21,1n the front face of the staff. In this manner the bundle carrier receptacle is interlocked on'the staff in such manner that it will not turn and a strong and rigid connection is provided. The slot 14: in the staif and the slot 18 in the bundle carrier permit independent adjustment at relative elevation of the knee rest and bundle carrier. The entire structure due to its construction is strong, rigid, dural'ile and inexpensive toproduce.
In accordance with the patent statutes we havedescribed the principles of operation of our invention together-with the apparatus which we now consider to represent the best V embodiment thereof, but we desire to have it understood that the construction shown is onlyillustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those above set forth within the scope of the following claims- I Having described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is I 1. An amusement device, comprising, in
combination, a base, antifriction carrier elementsarranged below the forward and back ward carrying element and a handle member upon the upper end of said. staff,
bolt and slot connections by which said handle member is detachably secured to said staff at any one of a number of selected elevations, a foot rest secured to the lower end of said staff, and a knee rest resembling a bracket having a broad side resting against the back face of said stafhsaid broad side and staff having a tongue and glOOVG connection and a fastener securing said bracket and staff together with said tongue and groove interconnected. i
2. An amusement device, comprising, in combination, a base having antifriction carrier elements arranged below its forward and back ends, a stafl mounted. upon the forward end of said base back of said forward carrying element, said staff having a series of transverse slots and a vertical slot, intercepting said transverse slots, a handle bar 7 adapted to be seated in any one of said transverse slots, a bolt passing through said bar and through said vertical slot to de tachably secure the handle bar upon said staff while seated in any one of the transverse slots, a knee rest resembling a bracket having a broad side resting against the back face of said staff, said broadside and staff having a tongue and groove connection, a fastener securing said bracket and staff together with said tongue and groove inter connected and a bundle carrier detachably mounted upon said staff.
3. An amusement device, comprising, in combination, a base-having antifriction car rier elements arranged below its forward and back ends, a staff mounted upon the forward end of said base, and a'knee rest re semblinga bracket having abroad side resting against the back face of said stafhsz-iiri broad side and staff having a tongue and groove connection and a fastener securing said bracket and'staff together with said tongue and groove inter-connected.
