eferring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates a lstationary distributor block provided with a central opening through which the timer shaft 11 rotatably extends. The distributor cup-Shaped depression in its face, the side wall `12 of which is co-axial with the timer shaft and which sidewall has imbedded therein segments 13 connected by suitable wiring with i the spark plugs of the engine. The base of the recess has imbedded therein an annular collector ring 14.
The numeral 15 indicates a shaft having one end bored out for the reception of the timer shaft 11,'the shaft 15 ybeing *held -f for rotation with thetimer shaftiby means-of the `usual key. The tubular shaft 15 has mouldedth'ereon 'aidistributor brush 16 of `soine suitable lmaterial such as bakelite.' This brush has `mounted therein a-carbon contact brush 17 which -abuts -the yannular collector ring 14 and lwhich *is electrically connected `with I a strip of metal' 18' which extends downwardly upon the end oftthe distributor brush 16 and is spaced f-roinjthe wall 12 of the recess and thecontact segments 13-imbedde`d therein,-a' distance vof -approximately one Vsixty-fourth of an "inch,

ln the operation of my device the corners of the squared portion of the shaft 15 are so synchronized with the brush 16 that they cause a separation of the contacts 27 and 28 as the collector brush is alined with the corresponding segment. Accordingly the primary circuit is broken and an impulse is sent to the secondary coil to the collector ring 14, brush 17, strip 18, segment 13, to the spark plug. Attention is particularly directed to the fact that the mounting of the supplementary shaft 15 upon the end of the timer shaft in the manner shown permits ready removal of this supplementary shaft so that it may be inserted in the cap While the cap is removed, and the action of the contacts 27 and 28 accurately determined.
As many changes are possible in the shape, size and arrangement of the various parts hereinbefore set forth Without materially departing from the spirit thereof, I do not limit myself to the specific structure hereinabove set forth except as hereinafter claimed.
What I claim is:
1. In a vdistributor and breaker, a stationary distributor block of insulating material having a cup shaped recess formed therein, spaced segments imbedded in the side Walls of said recess, a member rotatable Within the recess and embodyinga distributor brush coacting with said segments, a cap for said recess, a pair of cont-acts carried by said cap one of which is spring pressed for engagement with the other, and an extension of said rotatable element insulated from the brush of said rotatable element, embodying portions corresponding in number and arrangement to the segments of said distributol cap adapted to shift said spring pressed contact against the action of the spring thereof.
2. In a distributor and breaker, a stationary distributor block of insulating material having a cup shaped recess formed therein, spaced segments imbedded in the side Walls of said recess, a member rotatable Within the recess and embodying a distributor brush coacting With said segments, a cap for said recess, a pair of contacts carried by said cap one of which is spring pressed for engagement With the other, and an extension of said rotatable element insulated from the brush of said rotatable element, embodying portions corresponding in number and ar rangement to the segments of said distributor cap adapted to shift said spring pressed contact against the action of the spring thereof, the other of said contacts being longitudinally adjustable, said rotatable element being readily removable and embodying a further portion rotatably engaging 1n a bearing formed in said cap.
3. In a distributor and breaker, a stationary distributor blocl; of insulating material having a cup shaped recess formed therein, spaced segments embedded in the side walls of said recess, a collector ring mounted in the bottom of said recess, a member rotatable Within the recess and embodying a collector brush coacting With the segments, a cap for said recess, an extension of said rotatable element embodying a portion engaging said cap, and a breaker mechanism operated by said extension.
4. In a distributor and breaker, a stationary distributor block embodying spaced segments, a rotatable shaft extending into said distributor block, a second shaft embodying a bore receiving the first named shaft, said second named shaft being secured against rotation with relation to the first named shaft, a distributor brush carried by the second named shaft coacting with said segments, a shiftable cap for said distributor block embodying a bearing receiving an end portion of the second named shaft, a pair of contacts carried by said cap one of which is spring pressed for engagement with the other, and a contact engaging portion formed on said second named shaft and engaging said spring contact to cause the separation of the contacts.
