G. ROTTMA'N.v
ARMBAND.
APPuc'ATlaNHHLEn 1AN.12.1920.
1,410,222. j Patented Mar. 21, 1922.
l A lJNl'rno STATES PATENT o'r-lflc4 GEORGE ROTTMAN, or NEW vom; N. TY.
AnMBANnf T @ZZ iowfm, Zt'maf'i/ concern."
.lie it known that I, (irnoncn ROTTMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing`in Y New York, in the county of New York and tritate of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'inArmbands,
of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention relates toan improvement `in arm bands for engaging the-sleeve of 2L garment and holding vsaid sleeve in therequired position. j s
in object of my invention is to provide Van'armband*which can be adjusted according to the -size of the wearers arm; which will besimple in construction and capable of .being easily and cheaply manufactured;
and vwhich will be of such design as to pre-v sent a neat and 'even ornamental appeal'- ance when inished.
, This object and other objects and advanof my invention will appear fully from the following specification, including the accompanying drawings; the novel featuresA of my invention being precisely de fined in the appended claims; and while the drawings show the bestV form of my invention now known Yto me, I reserve the right to make changes in what is actually disclosed herein, without departing from the scope and spirit of my invention, as indicated by the broad meanings of the terms in which the claims are expressed.
On the drawings Figure 1 is a front view of an arm band according to my invention;
Figure 2 is a top view of part of same;
Figure 8 is an inside view, presenting the link by which the ends of the band are connected;
Figure 4 is a view of this link detached; and
Figure 5 shows a blank which can be bent into shape and used in place of this link, if desired.
The same numerals identify the same parts throughout.
As shown in the drawings, the band comprises a strip of elastic or non-elastic cloth 1, having its ends connected by a link 2. Figure 1 shows the band as viewed from the front, with the ends joined; and Fig ures 2 and 3 illustrate the band in part only; but one will understand that the band makes a complete loo to encircle the arm on which it is placed. ne end ofthis band is fixed to one end of' the link and the other end y t sfecificatian of Letters rafent. Patented Mar. 21, v1922. JApplication filed January 12, 1 920. Serial-No.y 350,543. i
of' the bandi's passed through the opposite` mrtremit'yl .of the link and securedrto the body ofthe strip by means of a suitable clasp 3, this clasp permitting the end to'` which it; is attached to be drawn thrOllgh the adjacentAA extremity of the link to a greater'or lessl extent and thus make the arm band larger or smaller, asV desired. To the link is secured a bow 4, the middle of which is attached to the middle of the link and the ends of which are wide enough to hide the extremities ofthe link and thus conceal the ends ofthe band; with the resultl that the entire articles can have an attractive ap- Pearan,
The clasp 3 may be an ordinary clasp,
such as isV used on Suspenders and similar` devices; and may comprise a plate 5 to which the end of the band that is passed through one extremityv of the link 2 is made fast. This plate `5 has over-turned perforated endsf 6 providing bearings for a clip 7V having trunnions 8 to engage the said` bearings, 4so that the clip can be opened and closed, Thisclip has its inner end bent at a right angle', as indicated in Figure 2, and
when the clip is turneddown against the" band, the inner end is forced against the band andl slipping is prevented. As this clasp is well known, further description of same is not necessary.
The link 2 may have the form of an open frame made by bending wire, for instance, into proper shape. The ends 9 are expanded while the middle is narrow, providing a shank 10 joining the ends together; these ends forming, in effect, loops 11 for engaging the ends of the band 1. When the strip 1 is secured to these loops, the ends of the band are effectively connected and the band can be adjusted at will. To join the band to the link, one end of the band is passed through one loop 11, and sewed, or held by a clip 12, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, or in any other suitable way, and the other end of the band may be passed between the plate 5 and clip 7, and through the other loop 1l, and then through a slot 13 in the plate 5, Where it is engaged by a similar clip 12.
The bow 4 is secured to the link 2 by means of a clamp or fastening element 14 bent around the shank v9; gripping the bow and holding it in place with its ends overlying and concealing the wide ends 9 of the link providing the loops 11.
the ends of the band beingjsecuredlas `effectively if theV ends were directly and securely attached to each other; while at the same time, the band can be made larger or smaller bymanpulating the clasp 3, and sliding it,
towards or from the link 2, y A
In Figure 5, I showl al linkin the form of a stamping which comprises widened ends 16 having slots 17 andconnected by a Y shank' 18. 'F rom the lateral edges of this shank extend opposite projections 1 9. ,y'Io use this blank, theA ends of"the"'band "are passed through the slots 17 ini' the same fashion as .above described, lin connection with Vthe widenedlends 9 of the link` 2;..and to secure the kbow to this blank, the projections 19 are simply turned over and" bent down to clamp the middleV of the bow against theshank 18 of the blank, thejwide .ends of the' bow fthenhiding the ends 16 and the slots 17 as inthe former case.V i
The band is thus exceedingly simple and can be adjusted as desired, and is neat and attractive to the eye. 'Ihe result is the same where a link lconsisting of the bent wire or some other substanceis employed, or the link shownin Figure 5, made of stamped metal or other material. L
VHaving described my invention, what I believeto be `new and desire to secure andy protect by Letters Patentfof the United'- States Vis Y v A 4. y
