Be it known that I, VAL1ER Gr. Womn, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Pedro, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Autoclamping Lamp Guard, of which the following .is the specification.
My invention relates to combined guard and reflector or shade for eleotric lamps.
An important object of my invention is to provide a combined guard and shade or reflector for electric lamps having improved automatic clamping means to permit of the ready attachment to, or removal from the socket commonly employed with electric lamps.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described which is simple, neat in appearance and cheap t0 manufacture.
In the aceompanying drawing in which like reference characters indieate like parts thronghout the several views,

Fig. 3, is a front elevation of my shade or reflector with guard or gate removed.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 1, indicates a shade or reflector with the sides, 3, bent at angles terminating at its rear or socket end. in a constrncted curved resilient split neck portion, 2.
The shade or reflector is further provided with perforations, 15.
The neck, 2, of the shade or reflector, is bent at its open ends to form wings, 4, which are provided at diametrically opposite points with bores or holes, A, throngh which bores or holes, a rod or bolt, 5, is inserted, said rod acting, as a pivot on which the semibulbous shaped guard or gate portion, E, is adapted to swing into opened or elosed position. and also aots as a means whereby the device is held together in its entirety.
The neck, 2, is further provided with wedge shaped portions, D, D. plaeed adjacent and in close proximity to the holes, A, the purpose of which will be explained later.
The gnard or swinging gate, E, is bent into a shape. more or less resembling a horse shoe, having the forward portion flattened and the side frames, 7, 8, longitudinally curved, and horizontally curved Wires, 14 spaced equidistant apart.
The longitudinally curved side frames, 7, 8, converge toward the'center terminating 1H enlarged rear end portions, C, C,said portions, C, C, being provided with bores or holes, 12, 12, and said b0res orfiholes being out of line with the radial Center of the szud end portions, C, C. A
The rear endportions, C, C, being en larged and mounted' 'eocentrically, will always present a bearing' surface to wedge shaped portions, D, D,-and the gateis swungto .elosed Or operative position, said ends, C, C, acting on*the'vvedge"shaped port1ons, D, D, will tend to draw the neck, 2, into frietional engagement with the lamp socket.

traveling toward the higher partofsaid wedge shaped portions, D, D.
This tends to contract the neck, 2, and bring it into frictional engagement with the lamp socket, which engagement looks my device into secnre position.
Upon ontward movement of the guard or gate. E, to open position the ends. C, C, ride toward the smaller parts of wedge shaped portions, D, D. thns allowing the neck t0 sprmg open. and disengage itself from the lztmp socket. Which will permit of the ready removal of the lamp or the device as a whole.
The forward and of the shade or reflector, 1, extends a short distance beyond the upturned sides. 3, and is turned over upon itself. or beaded. as at, 13. thus providing a shoulder over which the forwaid and flattened portion of the hinged guard or gate, E. is snapped when the device is in use.
In the practice and use of my invention the gnard or gate, E. is moved ontwardly on its pivot to permit the socket to be inserted into the neck portion, 2.an electric light bnlb is then screwed, or otherwise fixed into the socket.
The swinging guard or gate, E, is now swung into closed position the eccentrically mounted ends, O, C, pressing against the faces of the wedge shapod portions, D, D, which causes the neck, 2 to oontract and fritionel1y enaa the lampsoclt.
This provides 'a quick and secure means of holding my device in operative position.
