T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EnwAnD T. MCGABE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyaho'ga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful'lmprovements in Street Registers or Indicators, of which the following is a specification.
The 'objectof the invention is to provide a simple and eflicient and relativelyinexpensiv'e mechanism for use in connection with tramway and other cars for successively and automatically indicating the names of street or stations-as they are respectively approached in the progress of the vehicle as a means of convenience to the passengers and to avoid the necessity of having the streets or stations called bythe conductor or other train men or attendants and under such conditions as to insure accuracy in the display of the proper name or indication at such times or at such points relative to the progpage points of the car.

As the means for advancing the web or tape consists of the roll 31the accumulationof the web upon the drum 33 will not affect the extent of movement which, therefore, may be regulated to suit the distance between the indications or stations on the web or tape.
In circuit with the feedwire 18 which includes. the wiper 15 is a ma net 39 of which, the armature 40 918 carried, by the plunger 23 supporting the movable element of the circuit closure by which the motor actuating the circuit is controlled, said armature normally being held. yielding'ly out of contact with the magnet by means of a spring 41 or the equivalent thereof. Carried by .thespindle 30 of the web or tape operating roll is a stop disk-42 having a notch or seat 43 for engagement by a stop 44 carried by and consisting of a terminal of the plunger 23. When the stop is in 'engagement with the seat the web or tape feeding roll is held in a fixed position to display a given stationindicating the name through the display opening of the casing and upon the disengagement offlthe stop 'from its seat in the disk 42 the spindle of the roll is free to rotate under the influence of the motor which is included in the operating circuit 19,19 by the movement of the circuit closure element 22 into engagement with the contact 21-. The closed relation of. the elements of the circuit closure is maintained by the engagement ofthe stop 44 with the periphery .42 until the seat is broughtinto registration with said stop whereupon the plunger is depressed .by the spring 41 to break the circuit between the contacts 21' and 22. The worm gear 29 .is preferably engaged frictionally with the spindle .30 so that any movement ofTthe motor spindle 27, due to inertia, after the breaking of the motor circuit which. is ac? companied by the lockingof the feed, roll through the engagement of the stop 44 with the seat 23 will permit the said gear to slip onthe spindle without injury to other parts of the mechanism. Obviously contact: 21 may be adjusted to insure the properand effective closing of the motor circuit when the magnet is energized through the contact of the wiper 15 with the complementary contact 7 element of the power system, the energization offthe magnetv being accompanied'b the contraction of the armature 40 and t erelease ofthe locking means by which the Web or tape operati g mally docked against movement.
