The top and bottom bars of this frame are made to slide in boxes or casings B B, attached to the ends of a vertical wooden bar, 0. These boxes or casings may be made of tin, copper, or any other light metal, and are slotted longitudinally on their inner sides, as shown at a a. Through the slots (0 a set-scrcws b b are passed into the top and bottom bars of the frame A to hold the same at any point desired. The wooden bar 0 is cut out on the inner side, as

shown, for the reception of an upright roller, D, having its hearings in the remaining part of the bar 0 and boxes B. One journal, d, of the roller D is made square on the end and a recess formed around the same. for the insertion of a, key on said journal with which to, p a
On the roller D is wound awire screen, G, one edge of said screen being attached to the roller, and the other edge to the vertical bar of the frame A, while the upper and lower edges of the screen are concealed within the boxes or casings B B.
The entire device, thus constructed,is to be placed in a window, the sash resting on the same, when the screen may be extended so as to suit any width of window; or it may be contracted so as to leave more or less space at the side, if so desired.
