IMPROVEMENT'IN LAST-BLOCK FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,827, dated July 15, 1873; application filed May 10, 1873. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID HUARD, of Ashland, in the county of Ashland and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Last-Block Fastener, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical section of a shoem akers last with my fastening attached, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of myinvention is to obviate the connection of 1ast-blocks by nails, which gradually Wear out the blocks and make them unfit for use, and substitute a cheap device which looks the blocks firmly to each other, and allows their rapid and easy separation. My invention consists of a clasp-like fastener, pivoted to the main block of the last, which closes over the other block in connection with pin-fastenings of the same. I
In the drawing, A represents the main last; B, the block to be connected thereto; and (J- the fastening-clasp. The last-block B is provided at its lower end with a pin, a, fitting into a recess of main block A, and at its up per end with a recess fitting over a sharp pin fastener over the blocksand sliding the same in recesses e e to obtain their rigid closing over button at d. The upper last-block B is thereby connected to block A in convenient manner, preventing the damage occasioned by nailing, and preserving them for a greater length of time in Working order.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent- The block-fastener 0, having slotted recesses e e, pivoted by button d to block A, substantially as set forth.
' DAVID HUARD.
