Be it known that we, ALBERT E. DAvIs and Srnon DAVIS, citizens of the United States, and residents of Kew Gardens, Queens County, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Stands, set forth in the following specification.

This invention relates to window display advertising. Heretofore it has been usualin displaying advertising matter in a store window' to provide stiff sheets of card-board or mounting-board on the face of which was carried the advertising matter. Besides the expense entailed by the extra thickness of the mounting-board beyond that which was necessary merely to carry the advertisement, there has been'much inconvenience in trans porting such advertising sheets on account of the fact that the package must be of a size at least equal to the size of a single sheet of advertising matter, because one of these stiff sheets cannot be rolled or folded without breaking. These disadvantages of course are present regardless of whether the advertising sheet is an original advertisement or a replacement. Warping is also a disadvantage.

The object of the present invention is to make possible the flat-surfaced display of advertising matter the same as heretofore, but produced in printing or the like solely upon flimsy, rollable sheets such as print paper. Heretofore, more or less flimsy sheets have been supported for display on casels, artists stretcher frames and the like, but in carrying out the applicants invention it is purposed to provide a collapsible frame which itself may be transported with convenience and dispatch in a bundle of small size and which, when opened up for service in a window, is capable of mounting a flimsy sheet of advertising so that the entire display is fiat and self-sustaining independently of the floor or other parts of the chamber of window which it occupies. To this end a display stand, itself capable of exerting the necessary tension and providing the necessary supports both in the localities and directions necessary is con- I templated.

The above and further objects of our in vention will be pointed out more particularly in the following claims which are directed to the illustrative embodiment of the invention described in the following specification inconnection with the accompanying drawings, which are shown merely for purposes of illustration, and in which like characters designate corresponding parts in the several figures. In the construction of our stand, we preferably provide a lower. string piece A and a parallel upper string piece B, the upper string piece being preferably of a length approximating the width of the sheet C of advertising. It is preferred. that the string pieces A and B be made out of some light, stiff material such as channel iron or sheet metal havlng edge beads 1,2. The lowerstring piece A is preferably of a length greater than the width of the sheet C to provide space at its ends 3 and 4 for the attachment of supporting brackets 5 and 6, which carry swiveling extensions 7 ends capable of extending out laterally from the string piece A to form a suitable self-sustaining frame for the entire stand. The brackets 6 are 1 able bolts or rivets 13 at their lower ends to the bottom string piece A. What we claim and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1.
