DISPLAY sHEnrQ- y To all whom t may concern.' ,I
Be it known thatk I,- ARTHUR W. Dnwrr'r,
a citizen ofthe UnitedStates, residing at Emeryville, in the county of kAlameda and State of California,L haveinvented new and useful Improvements in Display Shelves, of which the ,followingis a specification,
The-present invention relates to improvements in display shelves and resides in the provision of a simple and inexpensive shelf which is particularly designed for support-vk ingA Vf ruitsuch as apples, oranges and the like butmaybe usedefor supporting other Y articlesif desired, the` shelf being-of novel 15.k
construction and such that it maybe quickly and easily attached to. supporting means suchas walls or upright standards and will provide for the supporting of fruit and other articles so as to present the fruit or articles in neat, even rows and provide an attractive display.
Another object of the invention is to provide a shelf of the character described which consists principally of two strips or boards of such construction and so secured to one another and to a support, that fruit or like articles supported thereon will not be subject to rolling from or falling off of the shelf, it being necessary to employ special bracket or supporting means for the shelf.
The invention possesses other advantages and features some of which, with the foref going will be set forth at length in the following description where I shall outline in full that form of the invention which I have selected for illustration in the drawings accompanying and forming a part of the present specification. In said drawings I have shown one form of the construction of my invention, but it is to be understood that Ido not limit myself to `such formv since the invention as expressed in the claims may be embodied in a plurality of forms.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a fragmentary front elevation of the shelf structure in accordance with this invention, showing the fruit supported therein.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the shelf of this invention shown attached to an upright support such as a wall, and supportin frui.
igure 3 is a cross sectional view with the shelf of this invention as it will appear when not in use and particularly showing the special construction thereof.

of the strip `or wall 1 as light cheap ywood but maybe formed of metal or other material ifdesired. In" this Preferably the. walls yory frame arefof by' I being nailed orgotherinstance, asshown `in the drawings, f the stripsy are formedof `wood. The istrip.. 1 upon its front facefpisstraight and its lower edge or face l extends at rightiangles tothe ,face y3, the Vrear `face `5 'of the stripy or l*In this position the strip 1 may be nailed or otherwise secured by fastenings 6 to the wall or support. `Thisdisposes the wall or strip 2 into upwardly and outwardly inclined position so that the shelf as a whole provides a trough which is substantially V- shaped in cross section.
By this construction round objects may be supported kon the` shelf as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and will not be subject to being easily knocked from or rolled off of the shelf. The strip or wall 2 at its rear longitudinal edge 7 engages the 'front' face of the strip 1 so that the lower face 8 of the strip 2 is flush with theV lower edge 4 of the strip 1. To provide for the ready insertion and removal of fruit or other articles between vertical rows of shelves, theunder face 8 of the strip or wall 2 is bevelled or cut away as at 9 adjacent the forward edge of said strip. i
It will thus be seen that the shelf of this invention may be easily and quickly constructed of two preferably thin and fiat longitudinal strips or pieces of light wood or other material, one piece, the back, being of less width than the other. These strips being secured so as to extend at right angles to one another. By cutting away or bevelling the rear face of the upright strip, provision is made for securing the shelf to an upright wall or support in such manner that wall llis, bevelled or inclined upwardly and` wall 1 is reduced in.
the other strip will be outwardly ancl,.up..
Wardly inclined.
